We’ve been asked a few times recently for recommendations of where to to at February Half Term with the kids. These are just my ideas, and we haven’t visited all of them.
1. Lanzarote or other Canary Island
We visited Lanzarote in November for a family holiday and the weather was lovely.Temperature in February normally hovers around a comfortable 21°C in with averages of a degree or two warmer in the southern and western coastal resorts. Nights can be rather chilly though, with an average of 13°C. We have just booked to go again in February 2020!
2. Dubai
Now we haven’t actually been but Mrs Atwah has and would highly recommend it. They visited the Jumeirah Beach Hotel.

3. Pembrokeshire, Wales
We actually went to Pembrokeshire in March, but you can have loads of fun wrapping up warm and there are lots of indoor places to visit too. Bluestone is also in Pembrokeshire.
4. Skiing
It’s a traditional time of year to go skiing. Busy it may be, but you are likely to get very good snow. Check out the Mark Warner hotels for a family friendly holiday. Skiing is not just for Daddies.
Check out all our skiing posts here.
5. Marrakech, Morocco
With a mix of good weather (mid twenties) and culture. Why not try a hotel on the outskirts of Marrakech in Morocco and head into the souks for a day of culture. Temperatures hover around the twenties in February. Good spa treatments for Mum too!
For a more relaxed Moroccan alternative to Marrakech, instead head to the relaxed port town of Essaouira with it’s long stretch if sandy beach offering surf lessons, camel riding and quad biking, and a traffic-free medina, which is a UNESCO heritage site.
6. Centre Parcs or an Alternative
Apart from the cost, this is a great time of year to go to Centre Parcs. They have lots of indoor activities and the pool is already paid for in your lodge cost. We have a few reviews on our site. Simply click here and type Center Parcs. Or why not head to our Ultimate Guide to Center Parcs!
This is also a popular post 10 alternatives to Center Parcs!
You can also read our post on why Center Parcs isn’t just for the Summer months.
7. Portugal
Cooler than summer undoubtedly but you can still get sunny days for exploring. The family friendly Martinhal gets rave reviews.
We’ve been lucky enough to visit all the Martinhal resorts and here is our comparison of those and which is our favourite.
We actually visited all of them in February too.
8. Staycation
Stay at home and do day trips. The cheapest option and can be just as much fun. Use our search function to find places in your area, or why not try a National Trust place there are loads that are really good for kids and loads with really good playgrounds too.
We would like to update the list so if you have any ideas or reviews we can link to. Do shout!

Oooh fab ideas!! I’m going to use this as my very own tick list!!! One per year!!! Xxx
Oh how I would love to see some sun, but we will be having a staycation! #sundaystars
Great ideas, I love the search function! this is going to be a great tool for me over the half terms 🙂 I went to Marrakesh in August for my Honeymoon, it was roasting!! 40 degrees in the shade *phew*
thanks Rachel
ooo lots of great places to visit, I would love to get away Portugal sounds good were booked for ibiza in may and it can’t come soon enough!
Thank you for this 🙂
Oh how I wish we could escape this dreary weather! Will have a look in your search function to see where we could go around here- always looking for new ideas!
We are all about the Staycation, and I’m hoping to get out and do a bit more this half term! How nice it would be to jet off to Portugal thought 🙂
I really really want to go somewhere hot now. One of our best holidays was to Istanbul. So the idea of Marrakech is really appealing. Thanks for linking up to #SundaysStars. Hugs Mrs H xxxx
Great list – lots of ideas here. We’ll be having a staycation, already thinking about what kind of activities we can do together.
Fab list – we have just come back from Bluestone – it is fantastic! Luckily we live in Pembrokeshire too! #PoCoLo
Aww nice places and activities but since we have no budget for anything nice we will just do staycation =P #pocolo
I’m becoming a February half-term staycationer. For the past two years, I’ve taken the girls to stay with my sister in London for a couple of nights and plan to again this year. There’s always something great going on and staying with family keeps costs down while it’s great to catch up once the girls are in bed. Although some of the sunnier, warmer climes you mention would be far lovelier!
I would be so happy to visit any of these! All great ideas. Thank you for linking to #PoCoLo
I really need to get more organised. Think it will be a staycation for us, but I love looking at your pics and ideas. Maybe I’ll be brave enough to try skiing next year 🙂 #thelist
*sighs* Marrakesh please. Actually any of them please, except the staycation…that’s what we’re having but most likely we’ll still be unpacking boxes!!
Thanks for linking up to #TheList xx
Definitely staycation for us, though we could do with some new ideas for days out xx
Oh how lovely. It’s so good to get away with the family. Great tips and pointers. Xxx
Woow. Very nice. Have fun
