Top 5 places to Visit Santa in County Durham Christmas 2019!

Ho! Ho! Ho! It’s that time of year when the nights start drawing in, the central heating goes on and the Christmas decorations arrive in the shops. On every parent’s to do list is getting the children to write to Santa and plan a Santa visit, oh and don’t forget the advent calendar!

So where can we visit Santa in County Durham, here is all the info you need including prices and how to book.

1.   Bowes Museum – Santa’s Enchanted Wonderland Grotto

Saturday 1st December, Saturday 7th – Sunday 22nd December (excluding Friday 13th Dec) – £12 per child

Santa is coming to the Museum again this December, so come and join us for a magical family experience. First, visit Santa’s workshop where his friendly elves will help you make some Christmas crafts. Then, meet Santa all cosy in his sitting room, where he will complete the magic with an early Christmas present.

Breakfast with Father Christmas at Erddig National Trust

2.   Raby Castle – Father Christmas at Raby Castle

Father Christmas will be returning to his favourite fireside chair in the beautifully decorated Grand Entrance Hall at Raby Castle this festive season.

Join the fun as he recounts a Christmas classic with the help of the sparkly Mrs Bauble the Castle Groom, Elvis the cheeky Christmas pony and his friendly Footmen.

The Grand Entrance Hall will be adorned with twinkling Christmas trees, a roaring log fire and Father Christmas will meet each child and give them a special gift to put under the Christmas tree.

Families visiting Father Christmas will be able to see him from Saturday 30th November and for the first time, he will stay right up until Christmas Eve, before heading off on his sleigh. Also new for this year will be evening sessions at 6pm where the Castle’s candlelit Grand Entrance Hall will really bring the magic of Father Christmas to life.

3.  Beamish – Father Christmas’ Grotto

Everyday from 16th November – 24th December, 10am – 4pm. £6 per Child

Meet Father Christmas in his cosy Grotto and say hello to his friendly reindeer at Pockerley Waggonway. £6 per child includes a small, traditional gift. Grotto tickets can be purchased at the Entrance on the day of your visit, on a first come, first served basis.

4.  Weardale Railway – The Train to Christmas Town

Dates: November 23 – December 23

Premium Class Seating: Adult £38, Child £28
Standard Class Seating: Adult £23, Child £18

The music will begin as we depart the station and you will be delighted with singing, dancing and storytelling from the Elves and Conductor. They will also introduce you to some wonderful new characters inspired by The Train to Christmas Town book and serve delicious refreshments in fantastic fashion. Feast on delicious chocolate chip cookies and maybe dip them into scrummy Hot Chocolate. Those in premium class will also receive a commemorative Hot Chocolate mug to take home.

Before we know it, we will reach Christmas Town where Santa Claus himself is waiting to climb on board along with his mischievous Dancing Elves. Each child will be greeted by Santa as he makes his way through the train and presents them with a special Train to Christmas Town gift. The energetic Dancing Elves will have the whole carriage singing and dancing along to your favourite Christmas songs.

Believe is an outdoor Christmas experience taking you on a journey through theatrical performances and interactive activities. It is a FULL day creating memories with your loved ones to treasure for a lifetime! Joining your chosen group, complete with your own Elf Guide to lead you around the Elf Tipi Village, you will meet all the Elves who will entertain you with a mixture of interactive activities and performances.

For 2019 come and help Santa’s Toymakers, meet the Reindeer, walk through the Enchanted Woods, discover hidden excitement in the trees, go to a new Elf School, make a lovely Christmas treat to take home, join in the Panto with Sugarplum Mary in her Kitchen, write your letter in the official North Pole Post Office, Storytelling in the Magic Circle and an exciting visit to Santa in his Laplandish Tipi next to his fire where he magically knows all about each child!

Mix this all in with the whole new Apres Ski Lodge complete with Bavarian Christmas street food to add to a whole new Enchanted Christmas. The day will run straight through but will give you an hour’s break at lunchtime to eat, relax and refresh for the afternoon.
