Ho! Ho! Ho! It’s that time of year when the nights start drawing in, the central heating goes on and the Christmas decorations arrive in the shops. On every parent’s to do list is getting the children to write to Santa and plan a Santa visit, oh and don’t forget the advent calendar!

2. Raby Castle – Father Christmas at Raby Castle 2023

Come and meet Father Christmas this winter season in the spectacular setting of Raby Castle.
Follow our festive footmen through glittering halls and gather round our roaring fire in the Entrance Hall for a special story with Father Christmas. He might even bring a present or two!
Complete with song, dance and laughter, this magical experience at Raby has become a wonderful Christmas tradition for our visitors.

3. Beamish – Father Christmas’ Grotto 2023
B sure to visit Father Christmas in his cosy Grotto at Rowley Station Goods Yard (extra charge applies, pre-booking essential, subject to availability).
This is a separate ticketed evening event – Beamish Unlimited Passes and Friends of Beamish memberships are not valid for evening events.

4. Santa at Weardale Railway 2023 – Christmas Santa Specials
Departing Station: Stanhope
All aboard for a magical journey through the Weardale countryside this Christmas!
Four trains a day will depart from a festively decorated ‘Santahope’ Station at 1030, 1240, 1450 and 1700 (except for Christmas Eve when only the 1030 and 1240 services will operate).
The journey will take approximately an hour and you will be accompanied throughout by Santa’s elves and our team.
Meet Santa and Mrs Claus with every child receiving a gift from Santa!
The whole experience will last approximately 2 hours with the opportunity to visit the ‘Story Train’ and participate in Christmas activities.
Children under the age of two may sit on a parent or guardian’s lap, therefore do not require their own seat and will not be guaranteed one.
Tickets are sold individually. Whilst Weardale Railway Limited will make every effort to sit families and groups together, there may be occasions where we are unable to accommodate this.
