We started the February half term off with a trip to the Peak District where we stayed in the beautiful Rye Croft cottage, one of the many varied properties to stay at on the Chatsworth estate, which include characterful cottages, barn conversions, period homes, shepherd’s huts and even a Tudor hunting tower, along with a luxury hotel and village inns. A location that can only be described as the most divine back drop for a UK staycation.

Why book accommodation on the Chatsworth Estate?

Well, firstly it’s beautiful and surrounded by gorgeous countryside as far as the eye can see. You can leave your property and enjoy several different walks almost immediately, or simply start your day with a coffee listening to the birds and watching others head off into the hills for their walks.

Secondly, booking accommodation on the Chatsworth Estate with Devonshire holidays also means you get tickets to Chatsworth House, gardens, farm and adventure play area during your stay. As we stayed in February the house itself wasn’t open but we did take advantage of the tickets to the farm and adventure play area which the kids loved and we wold highly recommend doing. There are animals to feed, tractor rides to be had and even crafts to make. You can easily stay a few hours and tire the kids out before a very short drive back to your cottage.

Plus staying on Chatsworth Estate also means that your welcome pack is full of Luxury Chatsworth delights such as jam, wine and coffee, something you don’t want to miss out on.

How many people does Rye Croft Cottage sleep?

Rye Croft cottage sleeps 6 people across 3 bedrooms, two doubles and one twin, all with their own en suites. You can also take your well behaved dogs with you too. If you are looking for something slightly bigger (or smaller) then Devonshire Hotels also rent out the adjoining property, Pingle Cottage, which sleeps 4 across two double bedrooms, so larger groups could book both cottages and enjoy a group holiday with the added benefit of some privacy at the end of the day.

Our review of Rye Croft Cottage

Rye Croft Cottage in situated on the outskirts of the Chatsworth Estate nestled into the hillside with panoramic views that are simply breath taking. It is different to any cottage we have ever stayed in before due to its upside appearance with 3 en suite bedrooms on the ground floor and an open plan kitchen and living room area on the top floor. The reason for this is that as the cottage is built into the hill side the back garden is raised and leads out from the living area making the whole cottage flow better.

All three of the bedrooms are spacious with comfy beds and interesting artwork. Each en suite has both a bath and shower and comes with complimentary toiletries that smell incredible, especially the rhubarb shower gel.

Upstairs is accessed via the centrally located spiral staircase and is equally as impressive as the bedrooms, with each window offering more incredible views.

To the right is the living area which comprises of two sofas and an armchair, enough to easily seat all 6 guests, as well as a log burner which was lovely in the evenings with it being February and dark and damp outside. There is also a TV with Netflix and a fully stocked book shelf too.

Over to the left you have the dinning table, again plenty big enough for all 6 guest to eat together, or like us, play games well in to the night on. Next to that the open plan kitchen which has everything you could need including a cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine and dishwasher and in the summer months you also have access to a BBQ too where you can enjoy al fresco dinning in your private garden.

accommodation on Chatsworth Estate

Overall we had a wonderful stay in Rye Croft cottage on the Chatsworth Estate and would highly recommend it as a family friendly UK staycation. The owners have thought of everything to ensure you have a wonderful and comfortable stay from the welly boot remover to the latest copy of Home and Garden magazine, there is nothing more you could need and if you are travelling with smaller children they even have high chairs, travel cots and stair gates available too. It really is a home away from where you can sit back and relax in the beautiful countryside.

If you do book a stay here then I would also recommend you make use of your Chatsworth Estate tickets. These are included in the price of your holiday and allow you to explore the farm, adventure play area, house and gardens. If you have young children then the farm and park are must visit, our 4 year old daughter loved them. Being able to hand feed the animals, enjoy a tractor ride and then play freely in the sand and water were the highlights of her trip.

Whilst in the area I would also recommend you look at booking trips to The Heights of Abraham and Matlock Farm Park too.

Three night stays from £900  (cottage sleeps up to 6)
