Location

Higher Kinderfields Farm campsite is around 3 miles from Macclesfield on the edge of the Peak District. The campsite has amazing views and even has a babbling brook running through the fields. 

Who did we stay with at Higher Kinderfields Farm

We booked Higher Kinderfields Farm for a Group Camping trip with four other families. We were provided with a really large area to spread our tents out in, and the use of two portaloos. We had more than enough space for 6 cars, 5 tents, and a very large Coleman Event Shelter too.

The children spent a lot of time building dams and creating dens down by the brook.

Is Higher Kinderfields Farm campsite suitable for kids?

Yes ours between 5 and 11 had a ball, but I would suggest that it probably is not suitable for toddlers. The babbling brook that passes through the campsite isn’t protected so if you like your toddlers to have some freedom this wouldn’t be the site for you.

Covid Friendly?

Whilst I’m hoping to be able to delete this section soon. Yes this campsite in the peaks is Covid friendly. The portaloos are cleaned very thoroughly every day and had gel and soap is provided. There are also clean showers and sinks that were also spotless.

There is plenty of room between tent pitches and the family team who own the site are helpful and kind, whist maintaining a distance and providing hand gel for communal areas.

What did we do?

We cooked Paella on the bbq on Friday night and made the most of the fire pit. On Saturday we had a lazy morning while the kids played in the stream and then we went for a walk on the Gritstone Trail in the afternoon. Mike and Louise gave us a walking leaflet from the local pub the Ryles Arms and we did the ‘moderately challenging’ 6 mile walk which formed part of the Gritstone Trail and took us from the campsite up to the top of Teggs Nose. We were out for 5 hours in the end including an hours picnic near the reservoir.

On Saturday night we cooked pizza’s on our OOni pizza oven which we had taken with us and put the world to rights.

Before leaving for home on Sunday, a number of our group did another decent walk through the forest again straight from the campsite.

Pros and Cons of Higher Kinderfields Farm campsite

• Great communication from the staff
• Lots of space for tents
• Quite hilly – we didn’t choose our pitch very well although others in our group did!
• Shower fairly basic and costs £2 but warm
• Near a road, making it accessible but a little noisy. Quiet road though.
• 11pm noise limit wasn’t monitored so music went on til 1am ish on the Friday night/Saturday morning. The owners did resolve this the next day though and were very apologetic.
•  Larger groups, up to 50 or more,  catered for on request. Ideally smaller groups around 10 to 30.
• ​For weddings/ events : up to 200
