I’m not sure who was more excited about going to see the new pantomime at Hall for Cornwall this year – me and my husband, or our two boys aged nine and eleven.
This year Cornwall Playhouse Productions in association with Falmouth University are showing an all singing, all dancing, very sparkly version of Aladdin at Hall for Cornwall in Truro.

Aladdin has all the classic pantomime hallmarks that you’d expect from a flirty dame to lots of chances for the audience to boo and shout; ‘he’s behind you’.

There are also plenty of Cornish themed jokes (including a giant walking, talking pasty), some amazing dance routines, incredible costumes and stunning sets.
Regulars to the Hall for Cornwall pantomime will recognise two members of the cast from last year – Willy Washaway played by Gareth Cooper (who was Harri Co’Vert in 2024) and Edward Rowe known locally as the Kernow King.
He plays Widow Twerky – Aladdin’s Mum who sadly lost her twerk after her husband died. As Aladdin and Jasmine search for a magic lamp will Widow Twerky find her twerk again?
Aladdin also features Dawn French as the voice of the genie.
All of the performers are incredibly talented including the local children who formed the Youth Ensemble. We were all impressed by the cast’s energy, dance moves and incredible singing voices throughout the show.
Highlights of Aladdin include a death defying magic carpet stunt and the very funny 12 days of Christmas song – do beware if you sit right at the front though as there were super soakers involved…
I love the underlying messages about home, belonging and the power of wishes – a reminder that your dreams can always come true.
Hall for Cornwall’s take on Aladdin is an entertaining, hilarious and glitter filled show that my whole family enjoyed. There were kids and grown-ups of all ages in the audience and I thoroughly recommend it for anyone looking for a few hours of joy and laughter this winter.
There was a BSL interpreter at the show we watched and some of the other performances of this pantomime are captioned, audio described and relaxed. The Box Office are really helpful so do speak to them if you have any additional needs or requirements.
The show runs for approximately 2 hours with a 20 min interval. There are ice creams, hot and cold drinks and snacks available to buy before, after and during the interval from either the Playhouse Bar or the Green Room Cafe.
We enjoyed a Callestick ice cream each at half term and they have sorbets available too which my youngest son who has a dairy allergy said was ‘delicious’.
Aladdin was directed by Nick Evans and written by Richard Healey and Edward Rowe.
There will be 42 performances of Aladdin which runs until 3rd January 2026 and tickets are available to buy from the Hall for Cornwall website.
