Where to go Pumpkin Picking in Yorkshire

Halloween wouldn’t be Halloween without pumpkins. If you fancy getting one for your home there are a number of pick your own places across the Yorkshire. Why not get the children involved in choosing their own straight from the field? Many places are also hosting other events alongside the picking so you can make it a fun day out for the family.

Piglets Adventure Farm, York

Towthorpe Grange, Towthorpe Moor Lane, York, YO32 9ST

There’s stacks of Halloween Festival fun at Piglet’s Adventure Farm every weekend in October and everyday from 26th October – 3rd November. The festival includes magic shows, Mysterious Maize Maze Challenge, pumpkin carving and a tractor ride to pick a free pumpkin for every full paying child. Plus there are other activities on offer.

Yorkshire Pumpkins

Pick your own pumpkin and bring the whole family along to join the fun – as well as thousands of pumpkins to choose from they have a children’s play area and refreshments for all ages to enjoy.

​Open from 10-4 every day from 19th October until 31st October.​

Entry is free for all the family and pumpkin prices depend on size, starting from £1.

The Balloon Tree Farm Shop and Cafe, York

Come and choose your own pumpkin for carving a scary face for Halloween. There are hundreds to choose from in the field. You could even do a family of pumpkins.

Pick Your Own Pumpkins start the weekend of the 14th of September. According to the Balloon Tree website, if picked now and left in a cold space they will be fine until Halloween. Wheelbarrows will be available to help you take them back to the shop.

Farmer Copleys, Pontefract

The Pumpkin Festival runs from 5th October to 31st October 2019, 9:30am – 4:30pm.

There will be a rainbow of pumpkins, red, green, white, blue, black, yellow, mixed, warty and of course orange, grown in over 20 acres of land! Don your wellington boots, wrap up warm and head to the fields for a fun filled day of good honest pumpkin related fun.

Scalby Grange Pick Your Own, East Riding

According to their Facebook page there’s going to be plenty of monster size pumpkins this year! The crop is looking really healthy with a nice variety of pumpkins of all shapes and sizes. They will open for Pick Your Own Pumpkins on Saturday 5th October.

The Pumpkin Patch Produce, Driffield

With a huge display of hundreds of pumpkins and squashes of all varieties, whether for cooking or carving, you can choose your very own direct from the farm.

As well as the usual dawn until dusk opening hours at the farm from late September and throughout October, there will be several Pick Your Own Pumpkin events allowing visitors to pick pumpkins directly from the field. Pick your own events are weather dependent.

2019 Pick Your Own Dates : Sunday 20th October 11am-3pm, Saturday 26th October 11am-3pm, Sunday 27th October 11am-3pm

Spilmans Cafe, Pick Your Own & Farm Shop, Thirsk

Church Farm, Sessay, Thirsk, YO7 3NB

This year Spilmans have planted 30,000 pumpkins and squashes. They have white, red, green, yellow and of course orange in all shapes and sizes from miniature up to enormous whoppers over 20kg! Come on down and pick your own pumpkin from 1st October, 10am – 4pm. There is no need to book to pick your own pumpkins – just turn up on whichever day you like. 

There is also a Pumpkin Festival being held on 5th & 6th October, 12th & 13th October, 19th & 20th October and 23rd to 31st October. They recommend booking your carving barn Halloween Festival tickets for our peak days, to ensure you can enjoy carving your pumpkin on site and experience all the other spooky entertainment that is going on!

You can purchase tickets for any day on the carving barn and this will ensure you always get a space.
Carving barn costs £6 per child or family ticket (4 kids) for £22.

    I’ve never gone pumpkin picking but I definitely want to so thanks for the great list. We went strawberry picking this year but it was just out of season so not a great crop. But we had great fun picking the mange tout / sugarsnap
