We have just returned from a week at Landal Whalesborough Resort and Spa. This was our second visit to Whalesborough and it certainly won’t be our last, it was lovely to see how the very impressive expansion plans are coming along as well as getting to stay in the brand new Gwari apartments that hadn’t even been built the last time we visited.

If you haven’t been before then Whalesborough is a luxury holiday cottages and spa resort that has recently become part of the Landal family. It is set within 500 acres of secluded Cornish Country side which provides the most beautiful views no matter where you are on the resort and is also surrounded by the most picturesque places including Clovelly, Bude beach and Bude Canal.

We made the very long drive from the Wirral to Cornwall on the Monday morning stopping off at Malvern Hills to stretch our legs before finally arriving for a 4pm check in. The staff were so friendly and helpful on arrival and made sure we had everything we needed offering extras such as high chairs and dog crates before showing us to our home for the week.

We stayed in the Gwari 3.0, one of the brand new properties which sleeps 6, comes with a hot tub and is dog friendly, it also has its own parking spaces right outside making unpacking the car a breeze. As soon as we let ourselves into the cottage we were impressed, although a little shocked to find that in terms of layout it’s upside down, with 3 double or twin bedrooms (one en suite) and the master bathroom down stairs and the living space that leads on to a garden area complete with hot tub upstairs.

As we unpacked the kids explored and excitedly picked their bedrooms for the week. As it had been such a long drive and it was already dark we decided to make the most of the barn, open the wine, and head straight to the hot tub where we relaxed and made plans for the week ahead.

In the morning we were up early as we had plans to head over to The Milk Way for the day and it was now that we could really appreciate why the house was upside down, not just to make access to the garden and hot tub easier, especially if you want to use it after the kids have gone to bed, but also because you can sit in the lounge with the floor to ceiling windows and really appreciate the views.

On Wednesday we decided to have a day onsite and booked onto the mini farmers farm experience so we wrapped up warm, grabbed our wellies, and headed over to the meeting point. This is a really popular activity and ours was the second group of the day with 25 people booked on, so if you do fancy doing this, and I highly recommend you do if you have kids, then be sure to book in advance.

The tour lasts about an hour and if the weather is dry also includes a tractor ride. We started by getting to know the donkeys, petting them and hand feeding them which our daughter loved. From here we headed over to the bigger field where you can go in with the goats and the alpacas, if you want to, and again hand feed them. As we were the second group of the day they weren’t very hungry but that didn’t stop them coming over and seeing what we were all doing in the field and posing for pictures.

Next up were the pigs were you are encouraged to throw their feed in so that they have to work to find it. Needles to say our boys thought this would be a great way to have some sibling competition to see who could throw it the furthest, nearest, strangest place in the pig pen etc. I’m sure those pigs will be finding food for weeks to come!

We then finished off with a visit to the chicken coop where again you can go in and feed them and pick them up and cuddle them! All 3 of our kids (5,12 and14) loved this and I could not believe how brave they were at picking them up. I certainly didn’t try it!

As the chickens were new they weren’t laying many eggs but Connor did manage to find a few which the farmer said he could keep and in Connor’s own words “these made the best fried eggs I’ve ever had!”

Unfortunatley we were unable to do the tractor ride this year due to the weather but we did do it last year and can say it is is brilliant experience.

After all our fun on the farm we headed back for lunch and made the most of the open kitchen dinning area where we could all relax and eat togther before we went our seperate ways in the afternoon.

For me it was a trip to the on site spa for a back, neck and head massage which was incredible! The staff are so attentive, the spa is lovely and calming and I even got to relax in the relaxation suite after my treatment, pure bliss.

For everyone else it was a trip to the indoor pool which they loved. The pool is part of the spa facilities so is luxurious in its setting and comes with a sauna, steam room , jacuzzi and plenty of seating for you to really make the most of it. If you don’t like the idea of children being in the pool at a spa then be sure to check out the adult only pool sessions and book accordingly.

If you stay in summer there is also an outdoor pool on site too.

After another busy day we headed down to the Weir restaurant where they serve the most incredible stone baked pizzas. Between us we enjoyed a selection of toppings but my favourite was the sea pizza, never before have I tried smoked salmon on a pizza but it was absolutely beautiful.

The Weir also serve breakfast in the day as well as a wide selection of drinks which we took advantage of on more than one occasion as the park is right next to the restaurant so as the kids played we could relax and admire the view of the lake.

On Thursday we headed to Clovelly for the day, a must visit when in the area, before heading back to make the most of our last night in the Gwari Spa barn with an evening dip in the hot tub followed by board games around the big dinning table and finally admitting defeat and heading off to bed for the final time in the most comfiest of beds.

Check out is 10am so it was an early start to get packed up but as you can still use some of the facilities on your last day we decided to let Layla burn off some energy in the indoor play area and then grab coffees from the Weir before we made the long drive back home.

Overall we loved our stay a Whalesborough and would highly recommend it. The staff are always so friendly and helpful, the facilitates are clean and the barn was amazing with everything we could possibly want or need from the hot tub and comfy beds to the washing machine and TV with netflix. They even greet you with a welcome pack off tea, coffee and biscuits and dog treats for your furry friends too. they really have thought of everything.

If you are looking for a luxurious holiday in the heart of the country side then this is it. The Gwari Spa Barn 3.0 sleeps 6 but Whalesborrough have a range of accommodations from a converted feed mill that sleeps 2 if you fancy a more romantic getaway to Nans House that sleeps 10 if you want a big family holiday.
