Show stopping, feet stomping and dress twirling! Strictly Ballroom brought all the glitz and glamour to the Winter Gardens tonight. A truly energetic and humorous production, full of thrills and laughter throughout.

Based on Baz Luhrmann’s award-winning worldwide film phenomenon, Strictly Ballroom: The Musical is on a brand-new UK and Ireland tour starring Strictly Come Dancing favourite Kevin Clifton and BBC’s Eastenders’ Maisie Smith!

Apart from starting slightly late, due to technical issues, the audience were soon settled with the Australian compere who was witty and amusing and put everyone in the mood for fun and entertainment.

This was followed by an opening number complete with bright twirling dresses and lively music which immediately had everyone tapping along whilst watching the dance moves in awe.

Kevin Clifton and Maisie Smith were a fantastic duo. The chemistry built between them as the show went on. Maisie’s solo scene was simply beautiful . This combined with seamless set changes and mood lighting really lit up the stage.

The energy in all the dances from the cast was superb. The dances were fast, rhythmical and definitely challenging. The audience was on its feet, trying to dance along, and the show ended with a standing ovation.

My mum and I had a fantastic evening, the feel-good factor of the catchy music, a colourful explosion of fancy dresses really bought the Winter Gardens to life on a cold and wet Monday night!
