If you’re looking for a magical Christmas experience in the North-West that will please the whole family, we know just the one. In our humble opinion, you can’t beat a classic Christmas film, and you’ll be spoilt for choice at this magical location.
St George’s Hall, a neoclassical landmark in Liverpool, is pretty impressive. When built, it had the largest barrel-vaulted ceiling and largest piped concert organ in the world, and this winter, will be transformed into a magical festive location for The Luna Cinema. Think cosy seating, lighting that highlights the best of the hall, snow dusted Christmas trees and a huge screen to watch your Christmas film of choice.

The Luna Cinema at St George’s Hall has a huge range of feel-good Christmas classics to choose from that are guaranteed to get you into the festive mood – Elf, Home Alone, Love Actually, It’s A Wonderful Life and The Muppet’s Christmas Carol just to name a few, are available to watch from Saturday 10th December – Friday 23rd December and include afternoon and evening screenings. For us, there’s no better Christmas film than Elf – funny, light-hearted, bright and colourful, and the kids enjoy it too, which makes for an easier watch for sure. Pick your film, and no cinema experience is complete without snacks – popcorn, sweets and chocolate are all available along with festive mince pies of course. Surprise the kids with a lovely hot chocolate, you can even enjoy a warm mulled wine if you wish or other non-alcoholic/alcoholic beverages from the bar.
If like us, you’ll be visiting with children, it’s worth noting that a child’s ticket can only be purchased for selected films that are suitable for younger children. Children’s seats are available for ages 3 – 15, those under the age of three do not require a ticket.
Doors open around 45 minutes before the screening begins, plenty of time to enjoy the hall, purchase snacks and drinks, find your seat and relax before the film begins. There’s no parking at St George’s Hall, but there are lots of car parking options nearby, or Liverpool Lime Street train station is directly opposite making it super convenient to arrive by train if possible.
What better way to get into the festive spirit! If you’re struggling for gift ideas this year, we think it’d make a lovely pre-Christmas gift too. With its central Liverpool location, pair it with a meal before or afterwards at one of the local restaurants to make it an extra enjoyable Christmas celebration.
If you’re elsewhere in the UK, do check out their other locations, Kensington Palace is another magical London option, or fasten your seatbelts and enjoy one of the drive-in cinema’s at the NEC in Birmingham or Bluewater, Kent. Whichever you choose, we’re sure you’ll have a memorable time.
