Last night I took my mum to watch SIX the musical at the Winter Gardens and wow what a night!

Thundering onto the stage for 80 minutes of uninterrupted joy, laughter and sensational singing were the six wives of the monarch.

Without any set changes or intervals, Six the musical takes you on a journey through the experiences of Henry Vlll’s six wives. Whilst we all know the order and fate of the ladies, “Divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived” this show told us much more about their experience in a pacy and thrilling narrative with a twist!

As a modern retelling of a period of Tudor history each of the wives share their story of suffering as Henry’s wife in order to justify their claim to the position of the band’s lead singer.

Review | Six the Musical

United in girl power this sassy, raw and fiercely feminist musical left was clever and gripping, my mum and I loved every minute.

The costumes were vibrant the singing pitch perfect and the lighting was perfectly timed to create the atmosphere for each wives’ story.

Audience participation was encouraged and you couldn’t help feel you’d spent the night as the best pop concert in town whilst learning something about a very important part of British history.

Co-directors Lucy Moss and Jaime Armitage’s production is truly sumptuous,  it makes history truly enjoyable and I can see what it has skyrocketed to musical success!
