My Review of Matilda The Musical
The music in Matilda The Musical is nothing short of enchanting. Tim Minchin’s score is playful, clever, and surprisingly moving all at once, with songs that make you want to hum along long after you leave the theatre. The lyrics are witty and humorous, perfectly capturing the spirit of Roald Dahl’s story and giving each character a moment to shine. There’s a song for every mood, whether you’re laughing out loud or holding back tears.
The staging is beautifully simple, yet it feels utterly magical. There’s a warmth to the set that makes the theatre feel like stepping into the pages of the book itself. Clever lighting, imaginative props, and well-timed scene changes allow the story to flow seamlessly, letting the characters and music take centre stage. It’s a perfect example of how less can truly be more, creating a space that feels intimate yet full of energy.
And then there’s the young cast, simply extraordinary. They bring a natural confidence and charisma to the stage that draws you in from the very first scene.
