If you are looking for a modern hotel in Barcelona that offers breakfast, a pool, and a rooftop bar in a convenient location, look no further. We recently stayed at the Occidental 1929 Hotel in Barcelona and loved the convenient location to the Airport and local shops, dining and transport. Plus, because it’s central, it’s accessible to local attractions.
Review, Occidental 1929 Barcelona

Where Is The Occidental 1929 Barcelona
The Occidental 1929 Barcelona can be found on Carrer de la Creu Coberta, not far from Plaça España and La Avenida del Parelelo. This is slightly outside the central area of Barcelona hence the hotel costs less that more central hotels. However its super easy to grab a taxi to the centre or its a 30 minute walk.

The Hotel cost us £174.72 for a one night stay with breakfast in October. You are also able to use Tesco points to pay for your room, so we booked using points and paid £40 towards the cost.
Getting To Occidental 1929 From The Airport: The Taxi Journey took around 25 minutes from El Prat Airport. We booked this ahead with Welcome Pickups for £32.00. This was brilliant as our driver Francesc was waiting for us at the airport, was helpful and knowledgeable about Barcelona, and gave us lots of tips and advice.
Whilst there, we also walked the 30-minute walk to Passeig de Grà cia to take a morning tour of Casa Batllo, a house renovated by Antoni GaudÃ. Top tip take the first tour of the day, it costs a little extra but is worth it for the quiter experience and gorgous light.

Where To Eat
The hotel is only steps from Las Arenas de Barcelona. Las Arenas is a fabulous shopping and dining complex located in Plaça España. The structure was first used as a bullfighting arena but was reconstructed and designed into a commercial centre in March 2011 by Richard Rogers. Arenas de Barcelona is now a shopping, sports and music centre with a 360 rooftop view of the city.
We dined at a tapas restaurant on the rooftop, the food was delicious, and the night time views are spectacular. We were only on a fleeting trip, but I would have loved a little longer to shop.

Facilities At The Occidental 1929
The Rooms at The Occidental 1929
Our room was a comfortable size for two people for a weekend stay. The bed was comfortable, and the room had air conditioning. Plus, the window opens slightly if you prefer fresh air. However, despite being October, it was hot during our stay, and we were grateful for the air conditioning. There are also bedside lights and a charging plug by the bed. A wardrobe, shelves and a desk.

Tea and Coffee Facilities
The rooms have tea and coffee facilities and a kettle, which is super handy for a morning coffee as you get ready for breakfast or after a long day exploring Barcelona.

The Bathroom
The Bathrooms at the Occidental 1929 are modern and fresh with a selection of free toiletries, including shower gel, shampoo, body lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste and cotton wool pads. The shower pressure is excellent with a huge double rainforest shower. You can even scan Spotify and select and shower playlist while you shower.

The Public Areas
The lounge area is stylish and cool, with a bar and dining facilities. You will also find a rooftop bar and pool, and basement bar and restaurant. All are very stylish and modern but do check these are open before your stay, as they were closed on our visit.
This was due to a big European football match, so not something that happens every day, and as we planned to head out and explore, it didn’t affect our stay. However, if we had stayed longer, I would want to know if I could use the pool, rooftop bar and restaurant.

Breakfast At The Occidental Barcelona
The breakfast was excellent, offering a choice of fruit, cooked and continental breakfast. It was fresh, plentiful and tasty. The juice was freshly squeezed, and the coffee machine provided speciality coffee.

Would I Recommend The Occidental 1929 Barcelona
Yes, the Occidental 1929 Hotel in Barcelona is in a great location, close to shops and bars, public transport and walking distance to the city centre. The transfer to and from the airport was reasonable, the hotel staff were helpful and friendly, and the hotel was spotless. Our room was great for a couple travelling; family rooms are not available; however, adjoining rooms are available, giving families extra space.
I went to Barcelona in 2017, and loved it! Did the Hotel include Breakfast in the cost or was that separate? Do you know roughly what it cost per night in US dollars? If I go back, I will definitely stay there.
