Maverick Snacks | Junk free snacks

The children’s snack market seems to be booming at the moment, as a parent, I am always on the lookout for a healthy, handy snack which appeals to both my children, aged 9 and 3. So what did we think of Maverick Snacks.

Maverick Snacks provide ‘junk free snacks’ delivered to your door.  Through the website, you can select a delivery of 7, 12 or 30 snacks delivered weekly or up to 30 snacks delivered monthly.   All the snacks are labelled as ‘junk free’, free from GM, vegetation and under 100 calories each.  The products come under the labels of ‘breadkicks’, ‘fruit lil’ brix,’ ‘poppin’ corn’ and ‘smart cookies’ providing you with a variety of both sweet and savoury snacks to choose from.

My youngest, always the one to go for the sweeter option, went straight for the cookies.  Whilst my oldest, a savoury fan, went straight for the breadsticks.  It was interesting that my 9 year old was quite happy to take a packet of snacks to school.  The packaging is bold and bright and quite striking.  It didn’t have anything other than the lightning bolt on it and so I’m guessing that this was considered quite a ‘cool’ product to take into school.  We have had issues in the past with her considering the packaging of a snack too young looking for her to eat amongst her peers…

We also found it interesting that she though the different coloured breadsticks (we had rocket red and lightnin’ yellow) were brilliant, whilst my 3 year old eyed them with suspicion and retreated back into his fussy eating stage firmly clutching the bag of Chocomatic Smart Cookies that he wasn’t particularly willing to share!

The portions are a good size and clearly labelled both on the website and on the packaging for food allergies such as dairy free, nut free and gluten free.  It also indicates whether the product has no added sugar, something we have become more conscious of over the past few years.

Our favourite product was the ‘Poppin’ Corn’ which comes in three different flavours; ‘Moon Cheese’,’ Super- Strawb’ and ‘Orange-utan’.  I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by this.  I normally stay away from popcorn as a snack due to all the small pieces of kernel which my little one finds a real pain!  However, these were small puffs of flavoured corn which were gently coloured, contained no added sugar and had just hint of flavour.  We all liked this product and I would consider subscribing to the box just for the popcorn!

The product does initially seem marketed at older children.  However, my 3 year old loved the box that the snacks arrived in with the phrase ‘Race Your Snacks Down the Track’ and not only did he keep repeating this, we did actually have to race the snacks down the track and then use the box for his cars once the snacks had gone! I liked the variety of snacks on offer and found the tastes hinted at the flavours just enough to make them interesting and appealing.  I also liked the fact that we had found a quick snack to send to school once in a while which met the ‘cool’ playground rating!

Maverick Snacks were a win for us!
