I won’t spoil the ending of this exquisite, heartwarming story for you but, safe to say, it is well worth the wait. We love the nods to all the previous books in this story (and yet it can easily be read as a standalone). We love the artistry, the colour, the warmth, the messages of friendship and togetherness (wherever you are in the universe!) and the imagery and beautiful words. A lyrical, soothing, out-of-this-world adventure to be read under mountains of cosy blankets in front of a warm fire.

Told through the eyes of a small boy after the death of his much-loved Grandmother, this moving book follows the boy throughout the day as he chooses to remember and cherish all the wonderful memories he has of his grandmother through the scenery of the natural world.
Far from being a sad picture book, this story is brightly-coloured, joyful and life-affirming as the bold and striking illustrations turn the loss and bereavement into something uplifting and deeply moving. It’s a celebration of life, looking at cherished memories in a beautiful way and the reader has a sense of being wrapped up in love and wonder.
For any child who is having to deal with loss or bereavement of someone close to them, this is one of the most beautiful books I have read about the subject.

Sweeping brushstrokes of gorgeously cute animals are spread across the pages as the words of the picture book describe the mouth-watering food being devoured. But one little mouse is just hoping for a crumb from the cart to be dropped…. Maybe this little street sweeper will be in for a treat tonight!
This book is a magical ode to Victorian lunch carts which were the forerunner to food vans and diners. We love the dreamy illustrations, which capture the night-time so perfectly and bring to life the mouth-watering food and the hard working animals. We also love the messages of kindness and empathy, as well as gratitude and dignity that the book portrays. It’s a magical wonderland of a book, filled with compassion and love and evocative of a bygone era.

I am a big Maggie O’Farrell fan so I was so excited to read this book because it is particularly close to our hearts because my youngest has a stammer. It is much less pronounced now than it used to be but when she is tired, upset or excited, it is still there. This is a lovely book for her to read because it is such a life-affirming and accepting book about what it is like to live with a stammer.
This is the story of Min and Bea. Two sisters who are very unlike each other but are very close. Bea likes to listen and remain quiet; she loves order and tidiness and dislikes chaos. Min is wild, chaotic and very chatty. Until the day that the stammer comes to stay. Suddenly, Min finds that her tongue is locked, her words won’t come out… she cannot speak. She looks in the mirror and sees a grey, sinister, demon-like mist sitting on her shoulder and stealing her words. Only her sister can help Min out… but what is that yellow thing on her sister’s shoulder when she looks in the mirror? Can the girls discover what has happened to Min’s voice? Will it ever return?
What a beautiful book!! Not only is it filled with words of comfort, reassurance and sisterly love but it is also exquisitely illustrated. The drawings are stunning, bringing to life the large imaginings and paranoias of a child who doesn’t understand or want to accept what is happening to her, as well as evoking times gone by… the illustrations really reminded me of my childhood! This book is a unique, heartwarming story which is much longer than your average picture book and it would be a brilliant book to cosy down with to read with any child who has a speech impediment, or to help develop empathy in others. Beautiful.

This book gave me all the female Indiana Jones vibes- I loved it!
Mabel and Will Greystone are off on a relic-hunting adventure with their famous archaeologist Aunt Lucy. All they have to go on is an ancient map and a strange-shaped old key, left behind by a previous inhabitant of Umber.
Hot on their tails is the Machiavellian Byron Cogsworth, a cunning relic hunter who is desperate to find the city before them and take all the glory. Will Mabel, Will and Aunt Lucy be able to locate the lost city before him? Will they like what they find when they get there? And what can the strange key possibly have to do with it all …..?
I loved this fast-paced adventure set in a fantastical world of clockwork mechanisms and steam punk. I adored the strong female characters of Aunty Lucy and Mabel in the story and the historical, archaeological and STEM themes blending with the fantasy and spirit of adventure. The cliffhanger ending leaves the reader wanting more and dying to read the next book in the series! An expertly crafted, page-turner of a short story by Barrington Stoke, engaging readers who have to work a little harder at reading and a brilliant book for those who are more confident at reading. Superb.

We love these full colour early reader chapter books for children because they are so engaging and are the perfect books to transition into independent reading by children. The illustrations in this story are simply breathtaking: exquisite spreads of detail and colour which highlight the love which shines through the story. A beauty of a book.

I just love a chapter book about nature and this one, combining magic, fact, adventure and forest school fun is one of the best! This book is the second in this fabulous series.
It’s Shyla’s birthday and she adores the binoculars she has been given, especially as they used to belong to her granny. There is something very special about them and when she spots a magical circle of glowing mushrooms, known as a pixie ring, when she looks through them, she realises that they might allow her to see the world as it should be.
You see, Shyla and the rest of the Woodland Explorers Club have been learning all about the important role that mushrooms and fungus have in the Wood Wide Web. So when they realise the mushrooms are connected to fairies and Shyla spots a sapphire-winged fairy through her binoculars, their adventure leads them to Tadpole Run. Here, they realise how polluted and littered the wood is and the friends set about clearing the rubbish and restore the area to its natural beauty so that the wildlife (and fairies) can come back and enjoy it. Will they be able to succeed.. they will certainly give it a go and have lots of adventures along the way!
Brimming with woodland facts – the wood-wide-web is an amazing phenomenon! – to inspire a love of the natural world and to encourage children to want to get outside, this is a superb chapter book for children. I love the empathy with nature, the friendship bonds of the characters, the creativity shown through the artwork, the healthy and mindful lifestyle it encourages…. I could go on!!! It’s brilliantly illustrated throughout with black and white drawings of nature and these really bring the story to life. The font is dyslexia-friendly and there are plenty of paragraph breaks and illustrations dotted throughout the pages, making this an engaging read.
I love the activity at the back of the book encouraging children to make a fairy house of their own. A fabulously fun story set in a wonderful woodland filled with mystery and magic, with bonus animal and nature facts to boot. We love it.

My youngest daughter declared the first of these books as her “favourite book ever” and who doesn’t love a book which makes you laugh out loud?!
Join Agent Harrier in his second top-secret mission to find the top-secret-file-stealing-traitor. It’s top-secret work, you know! And it wouldn’t be a proper mission unless he was also having to save everyone inside the book from being permanently erased!! Be prepared for paw-fulls of giggles along the way! With the fate of the entire book and all its characters hanging in the balance, it’s one tough day at the office for Agent Harrier and he needs to act fast.
We loved this graphic novel in its popping colour tones of neon-blue, grey, black and white which really add to the storyline and draw the reader in. It’s explosively funny, very witty and incredibly clever, inviting your young reader into the brilliantly-plotted story. I mean, really inviting the reader in to the pages of the story (will you follow Agent Harrier and Patsy into the gutter of the book?!).
We love the superb illustrations throughout, the brilliant twists and turns and the clever nods to the spy world. It’s captivatingly silly spy caper of a graphic novel which is clever and extremely funny, and it engages your reader in the best of ways. A pawsome spy story and we cannot wait for the next fun-filled adventure with Agent Harrier.

We loved the cartoon summary at the beginning of the book which could be used to recap on the first book, or just to bring the reader up to speed with Nina’s life if you are reading this as a standalone. It’s packed-full of humour, friendship and superb illustrations and would be a brilliant cosy night in read for any graphic novel fans out there.

Kieran Larwood is not one of my favourite authors for nothing!! And he has done it again!! With this perfect blend of magic, mystery and historical adventure, I have been blown away. I just adored this novel.
It’s the early 1700s in the land of Grand Albion and six magickal guilds compete against each other for the chance to rule the kingdom for that year. But the competition is becoming unfairer each year as the stronger guilds of Iron and Flame try to wipe out the weaker guilds of Leaf, Feather, Claw and Bone. Until a scrawny little orphan boy called Jed displays some very strange powers and is adopted by the fading House of Leaf….
Jed learns how to harness his powers, which derive from nature; learning to make his skin as tough as bark, speaking to the plants and even, eventually, summoning a Dryad. He’s thrown into the battle for his magickal guild’s survival but discovers a secret scheme to wipe out the other guilds along the way! As the rest of his guild are taken prisoner and stand trial to be hanged, Ged must fight for the survival of all the other guilds and save them from the clutches of the power-crazed Lord Cromwell and Lady Ireton. Can Jed manage it with the help of his new-found friends and a dryad named Hobb?
I don’t want to give too much away but this book is pure magic. I absolutely flew through the pages, so desperate was I to continue this uniquely-imagined adventure story. I adored Jed and I think that Hobb might be one of my favourite fictional characters ever!! His language is just wonder-bubble. A fast-paced, creative magical adventure story filled with themes of friendship, love, nature and loyalty, this is the perfect cosy night in read. Five huge stars from us. Team Leaf all the way!

These books!! Just wow! I mean, why would you not love them when Ember comes out with this near the end of the second book:

Ember Spark is pretty special. She’s an apprentice vet to magical beasts and is always on the lookout for adventure and daring experiences. Although Ember has a special bond with all creatures, she cannot look after chimeras, dragons, unicorns and neverwhales without a little bit of help. On team Ember is Rusty Fizzbang (white-haired, creaky-backed vet to the magical beasts), Mrs Rickety-Knees (wrinkly yet mischievous teacher and all-round good egg), Forty Winks (adorable yet high-pitched Nibblesqueak) and Arno (loyal, terrified of heights and any kind of adventure, happiest baking at home) and the unlikely friends have the difficult task of trying to keep all the magical creatures in the world safe and well. And with a crazed arch-villain called Jasper Hornswoggle and his gang trying to steal all the magical beasts, that’s no mean feat!
The first book introduces us to the fantastical new world of Ember Spark, the main characters in the books, the magical cave where sick creatures reside, and the flying bath (yes, you read that correctly!). The second story continues the action-packed, fast-paced adventure when a frost phoenix named Dazzle seeks out Ember and her friends and takes them north where Jasper Hornswoggle has evil plans for all the magical creatures. Can Ember and her friends stop him?
We ADORED both of these books. They were brilliant to read one straight after the other and the fast-pace really gripped us throughout and did not let up, particularly in the second book. We also loved the complexities in Ember’s character: her vulnerabilities and reticence to trust in case she got hurt again. These stories are just brilliant: filled with magic, adventure, fantasy, wonder and imaginative writing, we cannot wait for the next book in the series which is out next April.

What are your views on Pumpkin Spice Lattes? I actually quite like them but only if they have half the amount of syrup in them and no cream!! So it’s probably not really a PSL then!! The village looks stunning in autumn when the leaves turn and fall off the trees and so tourists from all over the country flock to see it. Until, that is, the multi-national, soulless coffee chain, Java Junction, opens up across the street from the cafe. And everyone flocks to Java Junction for a taste of fall … in the shape of a pumpkin spice latte!
Lucy hates pumpkin spice lattes – I mean, there isn’t an ounce of pumpkin in them!!- but she is going to have to put aside her hatred of the drink and create an all- natural blend if her mum’s shop is going to fight for survival. And to make matters worse, the gorgeous new kid on the block at school, Jack Harper, just so happens to be the son of Java Junction’s owners! And he seems to want to spend time with her. This was such a sweet, clean, easy-to-read teenage romance story filled with baking, coffee and cakes. It’s the perfect autumnal cosy-night in read with a cup of coffee, hot chocolate or, dare I say it, pumpkin spice latte! I loved the strong female characters and the love your life attitude of Jack and (eventually) Lucy. A heartwarming read to snuggle up with by the fire with a blanket. It’s like being wrapped in a hug.

This book was a powerful read. Filled with teenage emotion, friendship, love, grief, loss and supernatural lunar power, it was a really atmospheric read and was very enjoyable from start to finish. I liked that the book was about coming of age and growing up in a small Irish town but also that it combined that with an ethereal beauty and magic. A book to cosy up with reading in an armchair while the moonlight seeps into your room.
