Money

Before you depart, you will need to buy Turkish Lira and exchange your GBP to TRY. It is important to know the current TRY exchange rate and to realise that many travel money providers do not have high amounts of the Turkish Lira in hand. It is wise to work with Travel FX or check the FairFX rates when trying to obtain Turkish Lira before your upcoming holiday.

Is Turkey Currently Safe to Travel to?

Safety in the past couple years in Turkey has been quite shaky due to various factors. Turkey has a very large percentage of their population that is against the current government, which caused an attempted coup d’état against the current government last year. This, combined, with the growing sector of Muslim extremists in the country, also creates risk of terrorist attacks. Lastly, there is a perception of risk for tourists from countries such as the United States, whilst travelling in Turkey. Travellers are highly recommended to keep themselves informed about the current situation when travelling to Turkey so that they are able to keep themselves safe in the event of an emergency.

Should I Buy a Package That Includes Flight and Hotel?

You can, but when travelling to Turkey, if you book your hotels and flights separately you are likely to locate more of the unique hotel properties that celebrate Turkey’s tie to the Ottoman Empire and its unique history. Booking independently means you can experience these hotels as you travel around the country. Flights can be obtained from separate travel websites such as Kayak and Skyscanner with ease due to the diverse availability of airlines such as Turkish airlines from destinations around the globe.
