It’s five days before Christmas and Little Robin has everything ready, including a nice warm vest, of a different colour, for each frosty day. But Little Robin didn’t count on meeting five chilly friends: frog, hedgehog, rabbit, otter & mole, and his generosity gets the best of him as he shares his vests with the animals he meets, to make sure they are warm. With no vest left for himself, poor little Robin huddles on an icy roof … until someone very special and very Christmassy (along with his wife) comes to the rescue. What colour will his new vest be? And who is it made by?
This heart warming story, adapted from Jan Fearnley’s gorgeous book of the same name, is beautifully brought to life through puppetry, makaton, song and story telling, suited for babies to age 6 and their families.

As always, Poole Lighthouse delivered, with the performance shown in the Sherling studio, which is perfect for intimate shows where audience participation is a feature. My daughter and I sat on one of the front rows and were lucky to interact with Robin on several occasions, with Robin also pretending to steal my daughter’s crisps, which got some laughs and delighted my daughter.

The gentleness of the acting, combined with comedy and song, with a story based on kindness and values, is just what families need in the current climate. It really did transport us away from the day to day (and very grim weather on a Saturday afternoon) to remind us of what the message of Christmas should be. This delightful show is running until 14th December 2025.

Poole Lighthouse are continuing their commitment to community and family events with the programme for December focussed on children accessing the arts and the introduction of ‘Films & Fun’, the new family film and crafting event which gives families the chance to see a popular animated film together on a Saturday morning, and little ones can get creative afterwards with a free facilitated craft session. These sessions are every second Saturday of the month at 10.30am. Also recently introduced is ‘Family Cinema’, during school holidays, bringing a range of films (from classics to animated) for £5.50 per ticket, meaning families can access a fun day out, that won’t break the bank, in a welcoming and caring environment.
