The musical is based on the biblical story of Joseph from the Book of Genesis. It follows Joseph, the favourite son of Jacob, who is gifted a multicoloured coat. His jealous brothers sell him into slavery, but Joseph’s gift for interpreting dreams helps him rise to power in Egypt, ultimately leading to a reunion with his family.

My Review of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Though I know nearly every song by heart, I had little idea what to expect from the production itself. As the curtain rose, I was surprised by its distinct school-play feel, which, of course, makes perfect sense given the show’s beginnings.
As the performance unfolded, I was delighted to see all my favourite tracks brought to life on stage. But Joseph himself? Well, it was nothing like I had imagined. The show is wonderfully bonkers, glorious, colourful, and utterly joyful in its playful madness. It’s a riot of colour, energetic, and joyously eccentric.
Joseph maintains an old-school charm as it shifts through Western, Vegas, and French-inspired scenes, seamlessly blending traditional elements like tap dancing with its signature humour. You simply can’t help but smile. It’s like a warm hug wrapped in vibrancy, bursting with life. A testament to its staying power, the show continues to captivate audiences since its West End debut in 1973.
Christina Bianco, as the Narrator, is an absolute standout. She brings the story to life with warmth and a sharp sense of humour. She’s perfectly complemented by Adam Filipe’s charming Joseph and Joe McElderry’s hilarious portrayal of Pharaoh. The whole cast is a delight, oozing talent and comedic flair. Special mention goes to the children, who were exceptional in their roles.
This is a show that’s truly wonderful for all the family, a timeless, joyous celebration that never fails to entertain.
