It’s not normally where you would find me, in the second row of a comedy show with no one sitting in front of me to block the roving eye of the comedian landing anywhere near me, but here we are. Merle and I have come to see funny man and author James Cambell and it’s a pretty quiet gig. James takes it all in his stride, makes a few quips to his producer comes to the front of the stage and sits down. What follows is a brilliant hour of stories, giggles and conversations as James entertains us.
Although he has quite a few areas of expertise, for example: pets, Fireman Sam and a very impressive knowledge of Scottish geography, James Campbell is also more than happy to go off script and chat about nearly anything and he has the brilliant gift of finding the funny in everything too. Merle was in stiches for the majority of the show and he chatted to the kids in the audience with charm and ease.
Our favourite part of the Comedy 4 Kids was a wild tangent about Lollypop Ladies and how lucky Merle was to have one. It was great fun seeing Jo the Lollypop lady the next day (we are back to school in Scotland) and tell her she featured in a Fringe Show – she seemed pleased and slightly alarmed!
During the second part of the show Campbell read some stories and jokes from his book, there was a lot of pet chat and a few too many worms!
We enjoyed our intimate gig with James, and we both agreed he deserves a much bigger audience, so get along to the Patter House and join him for an hour of laugh-out-loud fun.
