Ice Age Adventure Live delivers a fun-filled adventure packed with giant creatures, interactive storytelling and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments for little explorers. This is not anything to do with the film ‘Ice Age’ and I say this as my son’s friend (who also attended the performance we were at) thought it was.
On what was probably the hottest day of the year so far in the UK, it felt slightly ironic walking into the cool surroundings of Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts to watch a show set in freezing sub-zero temperatures. But for my two children, aged 4 and 8, the icy world of mammoths and snow-covered landscapes was the perfect escape from the May heat outside.

Designed primarily for children aged 4–10, the show follows a team of fearless explorers travelling back 100,000 years into the Ice Age. Along the way, audiences encounter life-sized woolly mammoths, sabre-toothed creatures and cavemen, all brought to life through impressive puppetry, colourful costumes and clever special effects.

The production combines storytelling, audience participation and gentle humour in a way that really works for younger audiences. From the moment the explorers appeared on stage, the children in the audience were completely engaged, joining in with shouting, cheering and helping the characters on their mission to save the woolly mammoth.
One of the biggest highlights was undoubtedly the giant puppets. The mammoths in particular drew huge reactions from the audience, and my youngest was absolutely captivated whenever they appeared on stage. Despite the prehistoric setting, nothing ever felt too scary for younger children, making it ideal for family audiences and first theatre trips.
What really makes Ice Age Adventure Live stand out is the level of interaction throughout the performance. Rather than simply watching the story unfold, children become part of the adventure, helping solve problems and encouraging the explorers along the way. The pace stays energetic throughout, which is perfect for younger attention spans.
The show also manages to weave in educational elements without losing the fun. While children laugh at the silly cavemen and playful moments, they’re also learning about Ice Age animals and the frozen prehistoric world around them.
Parents will also appreciate the family-friendly running time of around 80 minutes including the interval. And the post-show polar bear meet-and-greet is a lovely finishing touch that younger children especially seem to adore.
Overall, Ice Age Adventure Live is an imaginative, interactive and thoroughly entertaining family theatre experience that’s perfect for young adventurers. Touring in theatres across the country in May and October 2026.
