I don’t know who was more excited about going to Halwyn – my husband or my two boys aged 8 and 10. The new Trackman driving range, mini golf destination and feasting barns at Halwyn didn’t disappoint.

We were shown to our bay, one of 15, and my husband showed our boys how to hold their clubs. They absolutely loved hitting the balls and had great fun watching the stats for where their balls went on the screen – especially once they realised there were games they could play to defeat monsters using the Trackman technology too!

I’m new to playing golf but also really enjoyed the satisfaction of hitting a ball well and watching it soar away from me. My husband is a keen golfer and already planning his next visit. He brought his own clubs with him, but me and our boys used the ones provided by Halwyn.

The bays can be booked for between 30 minutes – 2 hours for up to four people and you get unlimited balls for each session.

The 12 hole mini golf course wasn’t quite open when we visited but we’re all keen to go back and experience it. It’s been designed to reflect the Cornish countryside that surrounds Halwyn with large granite boulders and a flower meadow.

The feasting barn was open when we visited, and we can highly recommend it. It is a large, light, airy space with gorgeous wooden beams and a stunning view of the Cornish fields that surround the venue. They also have a big garden outside with lots of spaces to sit and enjoy some food and drink in the sunshine.

Halwyn is the newest venture on a family farm that was bought in 1944, and its menu places a strong emphasis on local produce and provenance. The Trevowah Herb beef in the burger was reared on the farm by another family member.

We sampled several of the small plates – I particularly liked the zaatar hummus, crispy cod croquettes and delicious Greek koulouri bread with white miso butter. My husband loved the slow booked pork belly and pan roasted local scallops. They also have larger plates and a children’s menu available as well as a selection of drinks.

We were both really impressed by the flavour combinations and the stunning presentation. Our youngest son has a food allergy and the staff could not have been more accommodating when serving him. Our boys both devoured their kids Trevowah Herd burger and chips and left clean plates.

Halwyn is located near Crantock, just outside of Newquay in Cornwall. The driving range and mini golf are open 7 days a week from 8am-9pm. Initially food is being offered from midday to 3pm, on Wednesday to Sunday but they already have plans to expand this.

Whilst they do take walk ins for golf and the feasting barns, I’m sure Halwyn is going to be a popular spot and would recommend prebooking a table or bay. You can find out more about Halwyn and prebook your tickets here.
