Based on the iconic story, this spectacular stage show follows the hit West End and Broadway productions to combine the memorable songs from the original 1970โs motion picture (‘The Candy Man’ and ‘Pure Imagination’) with all new numbers from the multi award-winning songwriters of Hairspray.

When Charlie Bucket finds one of the five golden tickets to the Wonka Chocolate Factory, he and the other winners canโt wait to feast on the sweets of their dreams. But, beyond the gates they discover more than just remarkable edible delights. As they embark on an extraordinary journey through Willy Wonkaโs marvellous mind, they soon learn that nobody leaves the same way that they arrivedโฆ
My son Dylan (7) and I were very excited to see the show, it was also Dylanโs first time out for an evening theatre production, which feels like a seminal moment! And even though I lived in Bournemouth for 10 years and now live close by I have never seen a performance in the Bournemouth Pavilion and what a venue it is!

From start to finish this show kept on giving. The story starts with Mr Willy Wonka )Edward Brennan), who is hiding in plain sight, running a sweet shop near Charlie Buckets house (Charlie for our performance was played by Noah Long). Willy Wonka was phenomenal from the beginning, particularly his singing. Charlie, his grandparents and mother incredibly enchanting and funny.
Some of the stand out characters are Veruca Salt (Molly Bennett) whose facial expressions were just perfect. Iโve never seen a face fit a role so perfectly.
Mike Teevee (Tom Carr) and Mrs Apple Teevee (Fiona Fox) were an exceptional pairing with little arguments and ditties on stage and fun interactions between Mr Wonka and Mrs Teevee that were hilarious!
The performers that stole the show though were the Oompa-Loompaโs, who were laugh out loud funny! I canโt say much more because it would spoil the surprises in store but honestly you wonโt believe your eyes (on more than one occasion)!
There are some twists and surprises in this fun, lively, exceptional performance. The squirrel scene, iconic. The TV scene, marvellous and the great glass elevator, absolute extraordinary.
The set, costumes and lighting were exquisite!
This is a fun, laugh out loud, high energy performance for all the family, from very young to very old, there really is something for everyone and within the grandeur and beauty of the Bournemouth Pavilion makes it even more wonderful! A perfect half term show!ย
