Largo Leisure have 6 holiday parks across Scotland. In January we were lucky enough to be invited to the beautiful Loch Tay where we stayed in a log cabin looking out over the loch, surrounded by the Scottish Highlands. Then in Easter we were invited back to experience a second Largo Leisure park, Campsie Glen, which is nestled between Campsie Fells and the craggy Fintry Hills. Campsie Glen is a holiday park with a variety of accommodation options including pitches for tents and tourers as well as static lodges and caravans for hire. For this stay we booked a 3 bedroom (sleeps 6) dog friendly caravan with a hot tub for 3 nights (Fri-Mon) and here is everything we think you need to know about Campsie Glen.

Location

Campsie Glen is a rural park surrounded by beautiful views. This means that you do need a car to access the park and I would say you need a car during your stay too as nothing off site is in walking distance. However, being in a rural location means that what you miss in walkable amenities you more than make up for with tranquillity and views. With a car, however, the site does not feel that remote at all as the nearest shops are only a 10 minute drive away and the nearest city, Sterling, is 40 minutes away. There are also a number of beautiful walks and nature spots within a 20 minute drive too, as well as a choose of cafe’s, pubs and restaurants.

On site facilities at Camspie Glen

There are a number of onsite facilities at Campsie Glen meaning you could stay on site for the duration of your stay if you wanted too. These facilities include:

An indoor heated swimming pool

The indoor pool costs £3 each and needs to be booked at reception where you will receive a wrist band to gain access during you allotted time. Inside the pool is a hot tub, toddler pool, main pool and a couple of changing rooms. There are no life guards however reception can see the area via video link should there be an emergency. The pool is relatively small and does get busy so it’s more of a play pool for the children than a serious swimming pool but that was exactly what our kids wanted so was great for us.

Games room

There is a small games room with a couple of pay to play machines, an air hockey table and a pool table, great when the weather isn’t great or for trying to occupy the teenagers.

Bar and bistro

There is a bar and bistro on site that opens 12-3 then 4-late on weekends and 5-11pm during the week. It serves a range of alcoholic drinks at very reasonable prices as well as a good range of pub style meals, again at reasonable prices.

During our stay we sampled the fish and chips, pizzas, cheese burger and the children’s chicken nuggets and absolutely everything was delicious. I was particularly impressed with the children’s chicken nuggets as you could clearly tell they had been made with proper chicken breast.

We also tried the cheese cake and the sticky toffee pudding during our stay and again both puddings were delicious. If you are staying on site we would recommend trying the bistro at least once during your stay if you can.

The bar area also hosts live entertainment so it’s worth checking the schedule to see what is going on during your stay if you fancy a night out.

Play Park

Next to the bar there is a park with beautiful views. It has a range of equipment covering all ages from swings to monkey bars and slides, lots of fun for all the kids on site.

A small shop

In reception you will also find a small shop for any last minute bits and pieces you may need like tooth paste and pasta but it is limited and doesn’t stock enough to get you through your stay so I would recommend stopping off at the shops on your way in.

Dog field

On site you will also find a dog area which is a fenced off part of a field where dogs can be let of the lead and allowed to run free which is a great idea as it’s their holiday too but this stops them from running near anyone that doesn’t like dogs or running in to the road.

Brooke

There is also a Brooke which we loved to sit down by and skim rocks in. In summer I can imagine this is probably where you will find lots of families having fun and enjoying the water in the sun.

Our accommodation on Campsie Glen

As we were taking our dog, Luna, with us, we booked a dog friendly caravan. I always worry when we do this in case it ends up being grotty, smelly or covered in dog hair but this van was lovely. Despite it being a dog friendly van there was no evidence that any other dogs had stayed there, everything was clean and lovely. We had 3 bedrooms, 2 twin and a double, exactly what you’d expect from a caravan, compact but with everything you need and best of all the beds were comfy which is always appreciated when away from home.

The kitchen had everything we needed to cater for all 5 of us, from pots and pans to cutlery and glasses and the front room was nice and spacious with plenty of seating for all of us and there was also a TV which was handy for when we had a wet morning in the caravan.

The hot tub was just to the side of the van and was nice and private thanks to the fencing that has been built around it so despite having neighbours we didn’t feel like anyone could see us in the hot tub and we couldn’t see in anyone else’s.

Overall we had a brilliant stay, the site is perfect for exploring both the city of Sterling and more natural beauty spots including Campsie waterfall and Meikle Bin, three things we really enjoyed during our stay.

That being said there is also enough stuff going on on site that it would also be a great place for those just wanting to switch off from the world for a weekend and completely chill in the beautiful surroundings.
