We had the most incredible time at St Helens Theatre Royal watching Beauty and the Beast! Watching these pantomimes is one of our favourite family activities during the school holidays, pantomime is not just for Christmas, it can be enjoyed all year round!
It was truly an amazing pantomime that captivated both young and old. The set was incredible in its design and execution, creating a magical atmosphere that transported us into the enchanting world of the story. From the fire to the gas bubbles, St Helens theatre is always an outstanding production.

From the minute the show opens you are transported to the tiny village of Petis Pois where the enchanting story begins with music, dance and laughter that doesn’t stop till you walk out the door.
The cast were magnificent, bringing characters to life with such energy and passion.
I must highlight Madam Botox, who was a fabulous singer and an absolute delight to watch, you can’t help but really like the ‘mean character. She truly gave Lady Gaga a run for her money with her stunning performances.
A St. Helens Theatre show isn’t a St. Helens Theatre show without Lewis Devine who plays French Frank and true to form he was the comic master that we know and love. Lewis Devine is a comedy genius, skilfully weaving in some risqué innuendos that added a cheeky charm to the show. He managed to really engage the audience and one particular member of the audience was a great sport and participated on stage with French Frank’s silliness.
Lauren McCrory was perfect as Belle, exuding beauty and charm, complemented by a voice that matched her character’s grace. Additionally, Potty Polly had more costume changes than my six-year-old daughter in a morning! Her hilarious antics kept the audience engaged throughout the performance.
The roles of Gaston, played by Connor Barrie, and the Beast/Prince, portrayed by Lewis Burrage, were brilliantly executed. The Prince’s beautiful voice and effective mask design were perfect for keeping the younger audience captivated without being too frightening.
I particularly enjoyed the creative choice of having the fairy as Fairy TikTok, which resonated with my children, who are obsessed with the latest TikTok dances. The song choices were brilliant, and the dancers were simply amazing. The nod to Wicked was a delightful addition that added to the overall experience.
This is a splendid adaptation of a classic adored fairytale. It’s wonderfully choreographed, acted and performed, with sensational sets and incredible costumes. The music and singing was second to none and the jokes were absolutely on point.
As we know pantomime is not known for its gripping plot or serious acting, what it does excel in is creating a magical experience for young audiences – and this show does just that.
I would wholly recommend this pantomime to anyone looking for an enjoyable experience. In fact, I would say it was one of the best pantomimes I’ve seen. Our 6 and 8-year-olds loved all the singing and found it truly entertaining from start to finish.
It was truly an unforgettable experience!
