Amaya Hills Kandy is in an absolutely beautiful spot 8km away from the chaos of Kandy below. Perched (literally) at the top of the hill with views across the Hanthana Mountain Range it’s incredible when you see it from below, and there are incredible views when you arrive.
This was our second hotel stop on our 12 night Sri Lanka trip over Christmas.

We arrived at Amaya Hills Kandy mid afternoon and spent the rest of what was Christmas Eve by the pool. Our check in wasn’t the best we’ve ever had with a mix up over what rooms I’d booked and paid for, whether they included breakfast or didn’t and what the cost of the Christmas Eve Gala Buffet was. It wasn’t the easiest discussion but we got through and the rooms we got were lovely, and right next door to each other with a great view.
Check in mix up was all forgiven when I got back to the room after spending the afternoon at the pool, to a beautiful piece of Christmas Cake. When you’re far from home at Christmas time this was a much appreciated gift.

Accommodation at Amaya Hills
The resort has different styles of rooms as well as suites, most with a private balcony overlooking the mountains.
Dining at Amaya Hills
The on-site restaurant offers a great buffet with a huge number of choices. The Christmas Eve gala dinner was brilliant and had Christmas dinner options too. Santa was fairly amusing but they did try.
The breakfast buffet had everything you could think of and would need. The kids particularly enjoyed the bacon.

Facilities
Amaya Hills boasts a range of facilities, including a large outdoor pool with amazing views, a spa offering Ayurvedic treatments, and a small fitness centre.

Location
As the location of Amaya Hills is 8 km from central Kandy it does mean that accessing the city attractions requires transportation. If you don’t have tuk-tuks for convenient travel to and from the city.
