Not far from my house is a wonderful little gem of a farm in Wheelock Farm. The entrance fees (although it has increased) are still a reasonable £3.50 with accompanying adults visiting for free.
It has a good variety of animal with, pigs, cows, sheep, goats, donkeys, chickens and horses and you can purchase an ample bag of feed for 50p. There are good facilities for washing hands with two hand washing stations in different sections and all animals are very tame and are used to being fed by small people! We were lucky enough to see a litter of piglets, very young and very cute! There were also about 20 calf’s which loved being stroked and enjoyed drinking their milk and to be so close to these was a real treat. The goats were over zealous as usual but not aggressive and some were aloud to roam free because of this. In the barn there was hay bales stacked up which my daughter found delightful for climbing and also making it rain hay all over my head…yay..! We also saw two tiny very new farm kittens which we spent a god half hour cooing over. Really good display of animal welfare and a great opportunity to educate your little ones.

The play area is exceptional!!! With 6 different slides, various obstacle courses, a zip wire, a roundabout, 7 swings and much more. Good for all ages with different levels for kids from 2-12 years. I fully enjoyed the obstacle courses myself. There is also a go cart area and some pedal and push along tractors, all in great condition. It is clear that maintenance is a priority here and new exhibits and improvements are made every time we visit.
We also enjoyed the addition of the Maize maze which was actually quite difficult and I was getting bossed about a lot but we finally did it!!! It was interesting to show Lilly were sweetcorn comes from and we also went to purchase some from the farm shop afterwards as a nice follow up activity and cooked it for tea yum!
Speaking of the farm show, the produce is so fresh and they also sell ice-cream and homemade cakes which are to die for. We enjoyed a couple of raspberry slices for after tea. If you get the chance visit the cafe which is nice for a drink or a bite if you are visiting on a play date.
All together Wheelock Farm is a quality attraction, which is reasonably priced. Perhaps tie in with a trip to the Railway Heritage Centre in Crewe or Brereton Heath Nature Reserve in nearby Brereton, Sandbach.
