Villa Inma Calero, Puerto Calero, Lanzarote

We have just returned from staying in Villa Inma Calero which we booked through Villa Plus. We looked at loads of villas before we booked it, and hadn’t previously considered Puerto Calero, as our search had been focused on Playa Blanca.

What finally convinced me to book Puerto Calero was a tripadvisor review that complained about the resort being boring and the lack of cheap restaurants and nightclubs.  With three under 4 in tow we certainly weren’t going to be partying into the wee hours so a place where we could wander down to the front to enjoy some nice meals sounded good to me.

The Villa was described on the website as “a stylish and contemporary 5 bedroom villa in the exclusive resort of Puerto Calero, right by the marina. With its’ large pool and spacious terraces, it is perfect for large families and groups looking for a superior villa and benefits from WiFi, a gated, heated pool and air conditioning/heating in the bedrooms and lounge at no extra cost”.

The pictures on the website also made the villa look huge.  The pictures didn’t lie.  Whilst the floorplan on the site is actually slightly wrong, the sense of scale and size wasn’t.  The villa really was enormous.  There were 4 showers and 5 toilets alone.  The master bedroom had a large ensuite with bath, shower and double sinks, and a large dressing room, together with double doors onto the patio! A real wow factor for us.

The downstairs area ended up being a separate suite for my parents. Although it was a little odd that their very large room had a table tennis table in the middle of it (all Very Villa Plus villas have certain things such as pool table/table tennis table/Wii console), they did end up with two bedrooms and their own bathroom on the ground floor. A bit of privacy for them maybe.

In fact the villa was so large and had so many bedrooms and showers, that when I asked one of my 3 year old twins what her favourite thing was about the villa was, she said it was playing hide and seek in it! On three levels with a large outdoor space it took ages to find people.

The outdoor undercover area, with sofas, pool table and large table was my husbands favourite part of the villa. There was a couple of days when a few spots of rain fell and it was lovely to stay outside but be undercover when this happened as it was still warm. It also felt very luxurious to actually have sofas to lounge about on, rather than sun loungers or chairs. With wifi that worked in the lounge, kitchen, patio and by the pool, this kept us all happy, blogging, kindles, facebook, emails!

My other 3 year old decided that the bbq had been her favourite part of the villa. This space was just off the patio, so separate enough that only the person BBQing got smokey, but close enough that they could be part of the conversation.

The best part of the house for all of us though had to be the pool. The pool area was fully gated on all sides. This meant that when the kids were playing hide and seek, even if they went out onto the patio, you knew they weren’t going to get out to the pool. This was priceless. So few villas actually have child friendly pools. The pool was also just big enough for us as it was a mangeable size. It was also now be remembered as the place our eldest swam her first width.

In terms of how child friendly it was, I think it would be suitable for those with babies, or over 3’s. Whilst the owners do provide a travel cot and a high chair, there are no obvious stair gates (although it does suggest in the description of property that there are some so might be worth asking).  The open plan nature of the villa also might not suit those who need to keep crawling babies or just toddling children safely in one room. For the age of my three (4,3 and 3) it was absolutely fab. The pool area was a little slippy but they soon learnt how to keep safe on that, and the floors could get a little slippy in the house if they got wet.

Very sadly I also thought the utility room and outside drying area was a really useful addition to the house. Here you could dry all your swimming costumes and towels, and let them drip water, without making the area by the pool even more slippy. This is definitely a mum point.

When we first arrived I was surprised at the lack of plastic plates, bowls and cups. I did however mention this to the villa plus representative and they came back the next day with 4 of each for us. You can’t say fairer than that.

We had a fab week in Lanzarote and you can see our review of the things we did here. If we returned to Lanzarote I would definitely consider staying here again. For less than £900 out of season it was very good value for money, given the size and quality of the villa. We have already recommended the villa to one family and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to others.

  1. Hi

After reading your review of Villa Inma which we found very useful, could you advise us of the nearest supermarkets to the villa, possibly selling home favourites (Heinz beans etc).

We look forward to hearing from you.

    Many thanks

    • so sorry I really can’t recall I’m afraid, but there was a supermarket on the way from the airport and a small one about a 10 minute walk away
