Trip Planning Service for Mums by Mums

Momaboard is a fabulous trip/holiday consulting service just for families. They provide personalised, localised itineraries to suit your families budget and interests. Basically Momaboard recruit local mums (Mombassadors) in top travel destinations who know their cities inside out and who love to share their experiences to help build these itineraries: this way you get your trip planned by a Mum in that city who really knows and understands how to get about, and what you need to see in their city.

I genuinely love this idea and for an absolutely bargain price of $50 (£33) you get a brilliant weekend planned!

I was really intrigued by this idea and when I heard they had a Walt Disney World Mombassador I happily agreed to try out their service in exchange for this review.

Being a bit of a travel obsessed planner anyway, I had probably done a little (ok a lot) more research already on the topic than most of their usual customers so I sent a few of my ideas over to start off the process, but you don’t actually have to send anything.

You complete a form which includes the age of your kids, your budget, how long you are travelling for and the type of things you like to do. You can also include any things you ‘must see’.

Once you submit your form they guarantee to get it back to you within 4 working days and then you have a further week after you receive it to send in any questions/ask for clarification on certain things.

Research suggests that people spend in the region of 8 hours planning a trip so for $50 (£33) for a weeks trip I think this represents real value for money.

This is the type of information you get to supplement your itinerary:

I love this, because it isn’t just saying you can spend a day at Sea World, it is suggesting a location that is close by for diner too.

My only criticism when I received my trip plan was that I thought some of the days they had planned for us were too long and included too many activities for the age of my children.  The Animal Kingdom day for example had us having breakfast at the park, and then dinner too.

On reflection however I realise they have to do this as if they didn’t give you a full itinerary per day that you could pick or choose from you would feel short changed. The more ideas they give you, the more options you have, and the better chance you have of having a fun filled trip.

For me I think I had planned my Walt Disney World trip a little too fully to get the maximum benefit from this service, but I think the service is brilliant. The trip plan can be downloaded to your phone or computer or printed off.  The amount of time this can save you is huge.  I’d definitely use this service if we were planning a weekend away in Europe as when you travel for a short period of time it’s so important to make the most of your time in a city. I’m hoping to take a trip to Amsterdam this year with the family so I’ll have to see what Somaye Dehban the Amsterdam Mombassador says about that. How lovely would it be to take a trip to a restaurant in Barcelona that isn’t just advertised as kid friendly but actually is because a Mum knows it is, or to book the right tour round a Museum in Rome because a different Mum has tried a few and highly recommends a particular one to their friends and family too.

In short for busy Mums this a fantastic service, but don’t just take my word for it. Momaboard are so convinced you will be pleased with their service they offer a money back guarantee if you’re not 100% happy with their trip plan.

This does sound like a really handy service for busy families. Some nights it’s a challenge to find the brain power to fire up the laptop let alone do travel planning once the kids are in bed. But then there’s the risk you’ll miss a great experience during your trip. I can see a lot of people using this service.
