Tregurrian Camping and Caravanning Club Site sits high up on, but set back from, the cliffs to the north of Newquay, away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre. A walk to the beach takes around 20 minutes along the cliff top (although this was definitely a lot longer with kids in tow).
The Tregurrian Camping and Caravanning Club Site seems fairly small to us but it has 90 flat pitches and it’s really pleasant. The site is popular and looking around many of the other campers seemed to be using it as a base for beach activities like surfing and body boarding. The site was equipped with a wetsuit shower and drying area which I thought was really useful.
The shower and toilet block was positioned in the middle of the site and well maintained and clean. There isn’t a play area for the kids on site which is a shame and I think if we’d been there much longer they would’ve been bored on the site. However, with much to do in the local area it really is more of a very convenient base.

The Tregurrian Camping and Caravanning Club Site shop has the basics and a selection of sweets that delighted our 3! The staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble – they opened the shop out of hours so my son could get some sugar!
Whilst we only stayed for 2 nights at Tregurrian Camping and Caravanning Club Site we still managed to fit in a couple of day trips. First on the agenda was Pirate’s Quest in Newquay which you can read about here.
We also visited Trerice, a National Trust property. Trerice is an Elizabethan house and gardens. There is a good selection of activities for the children in the gardens with grass mazes and outdoor games, and I liked that they had linked this to the 50 Things to do Before You’re 11 3/4. Trerice also had a great second hand book shop!
We went to the beach near the site which is dog friendly and had life guards on it. It was busy but had a good buzz about it. If you have young children with you I’d recommend driving down to the beach as the cliff walk was blustery, steep in patches and the path was unsuitable for prams.
Overall I think as we are not a surfing family we wouldn’t rush back to Tregurrian Camping and Caravanning Club Site, but it is obvious to see why it is popular with beach loving families. Newquay is a well known Cornish holiday destination and the Camping and Caravan Club Site does make an ideal base from which to explore the best of the area.
