Travel Tips: Picnic Tips

Share

One of my travel tips to save money on days out or holidays is to take picnics out with you.

Eating out at theme parks, zoos or near the beach can cost a fortune on top of the cost of the day out, and often you can’t buy food your kids will actually eat! I am also a huge fan of picnics because they save so much time.  Last week we went to the Ice Cream Farm again, and it was heaving. I didn’t  take a picnic as they have asked you not to do so, but the catering facilities they have aren’t really coping with the increased demand, so we had to wait 45 minutes to order food.  I really really wish we had taken a picnic.

So what do we take when we go out for picnics? What do we use?  I have some very very well used picnic products, some of which I’ve been sent, some of which we have always had, but we use them weekly if not twice/three times a week.

I love my Aladdin salad jar. I use this three times a week for work and if I’m being good, want something more interesting on a family picnic.  I love the fact that you can put salad dressing in the lid, it’s brilliant! At £7.99 I also think it’s a bargain.

We have two Aladdin water bottles which I love as I hate throwing away plastic bottles all the time. For the kids these Camelbak bottles have been the best drinks bottles we have ever had (and we have had a lot!).  They don’t leak at all and they look great!  We take them everywhere with us.  As you can see they came to the zoo.

I’m a bit obsessed with this vitamin water too by More Drinks. My new favourite is the cranberry and pomegranate. The kids like the smaller bottles that look like fruit shoots, but are as far from it as can be. Win win for me. We always pack Crushed fruit pouches (sadly now closed down) and the kids have recently discovered the Munch Bunch yoghurts.  Crisps, raisins, bananas and chocolate biscuits (this week Choco Leibniz which are just too nice!) are usually in our pack up, so the kids can graze all day and we don’t have to stand in queue after queue when they get hungry. Yesterday I filled this pretty pink Sistema lunch box with ham and salmon wraps and little sausages before we went out to the zoo. The lunch box has 3 little compartments for different things and is really light when it’s empty. As always I grabbed a coffee too for the car and set off! If you have struggled to find a good coffee cup that doesn’t leak you should try the Camelbak Forge, they are absolutely fab and I love the white and pink one!

  1. I wholeheartedly agree! If we’re in a rush, I tend to think it will be okay and we’ll find something to eat when we get there, and then I get really cross standing in a queue for ages only to pay a fortune for very basic food. Love the lunchbox and the Camelback bottles … we have the same ones.
