Earlier this week we went Ice Skating with the Kids at Liverpool Ice Festival and here are 5 Top Tips!
Go in the week – not at the weekend! You’ll thank me for it, I promise! Even though you book the Ice Skating in time slots, it WILL be full at the weekend and far harder for the kids to try it out. Go in the week and you’ll have more space around the ice – we went for the 5pm slot and it was really nice and quiet.
Use the area in the middle of the ice for the kids to practice in – it’s safer and makes them feel more secure.

Book online before you head into town. That way you know you can have the slot you want and you don’t have crying children like I did last year when I couldn’t get a slot until 9pm (far too late for us.)

Take an extra pair of hands. It’s hard to get the ski boots on and off and you’ll get no help from the staff – they are young and fairly rushed (even when it’s quiet) and not the most helpful.
Wear hats and gloves and coats that cover their bottoms for when they fall over. Jeans or at least long trousers also a great idea.
Take extra cash with you and hire a penguin, but factor this into the cost. It’s an extra £5 for the penguins the kids can use to help them skate and stand up. Essential if you take 3 kids on your own like I did last year. It’s also £2 no-refundable deposit for the locker too which you’ll want to use to put your handbag in etc. The lockers are however really small so don’t take much with you – certainly don’t go after you’ve been shopping.

Ice skating is probably harder to learn because the blade is thinner and ice is way more slippery. Once you get the hang of it, however, turns and stops are easier.
