The Elms, Worcestershire

Staycations continues to rise in the UK, Sands Resort Hotel & Spa

Last February, my mother in law was in need of some rest and a little pampering, and it was decided that her three boys and their families would head off for a weekend. Given that her youngest son and wife had no children at that point, and we had to consider three grandchildren, two girls (3 and 5) and one little boy aged 1, a suggestion was made that we look at the Luxury Family Hotels, a group that claims to be experts in luxury family breaks.

And they aren’t wrong!

With hotels based mainly in South West England, we chose The Elms in Worcestershire, a large manor house with grounds to explore and a fabulous sounding spa. After a wet and wild Friday evening drive, we opened the front door to be welcomed by large, comfortable sofas and a roaring fire, which set the tone for our stay.

We spent the weekend following the fairy trail through the gardens, swimming, using the facilities of the family room and using the Bear’s Den crèche facility, whilst the men watched the rugby and wives took full advantage of the spa treatments on offer.

All baby equipment was supplied (cots, change mats, nappy bins), a bottle washing service, babysitting and baby listening services, and crèche facilities. The Garden Cafe provided wonderful High Tea for the children, whilst we enjoyed grown up evenings at the Brookes Restaurant, utilising the baby listening service.

Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and even though there is a focus on children, it feels a very grown up hotel and we did meet couples who where there without children. We had a wonderful weekend, and everyone went home feeling rested and with jeans feeling a little tighter!
