Why should you book a stay in a caravan at Beverley Park in Paignton?

We always holidayed in Devon when I was growing up. 3 generations would squash into my mums VW Beetle and off we would set for the 8-9 hour journey to the English Riviera. So when we were invited to stay at the Beverley Park with Beverley Holidays – I, for one, just couldn’t wait to go. The kids were excited too – we had checked out the activity timetable in advance and amazingly there was something that each of them wanted to do! At ages of 11, 9 and 6 sometimes it’s hard to find a venue that will cater for all of their tastes at roughly the same time.

The park is just outside Paignton- sat on a beautiful headland with views out to the bay.

Our caravan didn’t have the views, but, a 2 minute walk across the road to the sister campsite Beverley Bay uncovered a glorious view-  for miles out to Paignton and the sea beyond. I know from when I was a kid that there are tons of activities around the area if you wanted to leave the Caravan Park- Goodrington Sands, the Dart Valley railway, Paignton Zoo to name just a few. Nearby in Torquay and Brixham – there are lots more kid friendly activities and lots to do if weather isn’t good. Torquay has huge wave and slide pool with beaches, funfairs which we have visited before. We didn’t do any activities outside of the caravan site as the kids couldn’t be persuaded to leave! They were happy playing mini golf, swimming, visiting the 2 adventure style playgrounds and generally “playing-out” around the caravan. Playing out is something my kids don’t get to do much of these days – but I think the main reason they didn’t want to leave the site was the sense of independence it gave them to be able to pop to the playground, the shop or for a game of golf without an adult attached to them.

Family-friendly facilities at Beverley Holiday Park

Beverley Park is most definitely family-friendly with plenty of facilities on site to keep kids entertained. The staff responsible for the kids activities had plenty of energy to keep the kids attention and keep them engaged throughout all of the classes that they did. We tried soft archery, water walkerz and body zorbs. In addition my littlest one went to a superhero breakfast and breakfast with Beverley and Sandy – life size characters that my littlest one loved to see around the site! We did family quizzes and bingo too. There is also mini golf which entertained them all for an hour and an outdoor play area. We all had fun at the family bingo which is on most nights at 7pm so early enough for little ones. We stayed up for the main entertainment on the Friday night, which was based on the Rio Carnival. The Starlight bar – one of the venues for evening entertainment is located centrally on site and a short stroll from the caravans. Lots of the activities took place here and there was plenty of space to spread out and catch up on the newspapers or a bit of work whilst the kids were kept busy. Other activities took place at Oceans bar down on the sister site. Again lots of space to spread out and pool and air hockey games for the kids – as well as an outdoor playground.

The zorbs games were held on a field on the sister campsite and we wandered over there one morning for the activity. That was for ages 7 and over so my little one couldn’t join in. There wasn’t too much drama about that though, as she had superhero masks and shields from her previous class to finish colouring in! We sat on the balcony overlooking the sea whilst the big ones bounced around the field in giant air filled bouncing balls! They had a great time, they were shattered and the bits of it I did watch were hilarious! Again the staff were on hand and very engaged to see the kids through the activity safely and happily.

We didn’t get to try the outdoor pool as we visited in October and it was closed but it looked clean and well-maintained. It is very central to the main area and there were lots of sun-loungers and seats as well as food and drink outlets. Overall I thought the grounds and standards of cleanliness wherever we went on the site were exceptionally high.

The covered heated swimming pool is the centre-piece. My lot loved it so much that we squeezed in two visits during our two night stay. There’s a small, shallow toddler pool. The cubicle, changing rooms and showers are adequate and there are refundable lockers.

As well as the toasty warm pool, there’s a steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi for older fun seekers!

The caravan itself at Beverley Park

I cannot speak highly enough of the caravan. It really was state of the art, beautifully clean, well–positioned and well-presented. Every detail had been catered for and attended too. There was plenty of space both inside and out for family games – we even played giant dominoes on the lawn. There is also a nespresso type coffee machine provided, which helped the older fun seekers make it out for the 10am kids clubs without any problem! The heating and water was very efficient – the power shower in the caravan was a dream. The nights were a bit chilly in October but we were kept cozy by the brand new central heating system, which has a great boost function. The kitchen is really well set out and has everything that you need. The jewel in the crown of the caravan was the hot tub, which adults and kids thoroughly enjoyed. It is slightly sunk into the deck/veranda which makes climbing in and out for little people really easy. Also it is fenced off and there is a lockable gate to keep the littlest people safe! The hot tub was checked every morning by a member of staff so we didn’t have to worry about the chemicals being at the correct levels! Another detail taken care of.

Eating on site at Beverley Park

On the Friday afternoon we stopped off at the Catch Chipshop – which also does pizzas after 4pm. The kids had the kids meals which were reasonably priced at £4.50 each including a drink – everything is cooked to order and it was excellent quality with generous portion sizes. The kids meals came in little snack boxes decorated with animals that made the littlest one grin – sometimes it’s the little details that they remember.

On the Friday night we decided to eat out and wandered down to Jetty restaurant, near reception.

The bar and dining area look very fresh and trendy. Apparently the carvery on a Sunday is excellent although we didn’t have time to pack that in.

The food at the main restaurant was very good – we tried the steak and ale pie and thai green curry. Again the kids were well catered for – with beef lasagne in addition to the more usual kids options of goujons and fish and chips.  The prices were reasonable and the portion sizes excellent. There is a huge menu to choose from and I was genuinely impressed. Every time we ate out there were kids activities and colouring sheets brought to our table, we didn’t have to ask. We also went out for breakfast on the Sunday morning which was good but I was slightly disappointed that there wasn’t a vegetarian option for breakfast and we were not allowed to swap in other veggie options. The kids were very happy though with their pancakes and syrup –  3 pancakes and 2 toppings for £4.50, I thought was excellent value. There was generally a good range of healthy choices as well as treats at each venue that we ate at and also lots of veggies on offer at each meal.

Drinks and snacks were also reasonably priced – about £3 for a beer and 80p for crisps.

Overall

We had a lovely stay at Beverley Park and we found it to be a great holiday park for families. The onsite facilities and activities to do in the area make it a perfect spot for a holiday with children. The views, fab food and the glamorous caravan really made it perfect! Above all, the staff really made the kids stay memorable. Each member made an effort to remember our kids names throughout each activity that they did. They provided lots of encouragement and they were really engaging. The staff that we came into contact with at reception, bars and restaurants also did their best to make our holiday. Nothing was too much trouble.

My 9 year old (without any prompting) actually asked if she could write her own review of her stay which we will post soon. She said she wanted other kids to know how fun it was to stay at Beverley Park.

I would thoroughly recommend the caravans and the park itself. It was a great break!

During the October half term I went to Beverley Park in Devon with my little sister (Flossie, Age 6) My mum (Kate) and Reuben (Age 11). I thought I might review the children’s activity’s because they were amazing fun. Beverly Park has 2 mascots called Sandy Starfish and Beverley Bear. There was also a crazy golf course and a children’s playground.

The first activity at Beverley Park we did was soft archery.

Archery was very very fun because it taught us how to hold the bow properly and how to release the arrows. We wore pads on our arms to stop  the string from catching our skin. It was soft archery so the arrows had plastic suckers on the end and the targets were plastic boards with the patterns that archery boards have. We had a few practice rounds and then we had competitions but the only person who we were competing against was ourselves because we had to beat our score. After the competitions we played a game called “save the princess” which was were we had to hit all of the circles but we only had eight arrows. I would recommend archery for children aged 6+.

The second activity we did at Beverly Park was swimming.

Swimming was very fun because the pool was very big and the deep end was extremely deep. We played lots of games eg. Tag. It was very safe and I would recommend this activity for all ages. As well as the main pool there was also a children’s area which was about 0.5 metres deep and a jacuzzi. We all loved the swimming pool very much.

The third activity we did was Water Walkers.

Water walkers was great fun because it was on a huge outdoor pool. A water walker is when there is a big clear ball full of air and your inside it and you can run in it and crawl a bit like a hamster. We had to stand up and floss and do a special dance inside the ball. I would definitely recommend this activity for children ages 6+.

The last activity we did was; Bodyzorbs.

This activity was 7+. We got put in cylinders that covered us from our head to our waist. We had to fall four wars on to our tummy but that didn’t hurt because we were in big inflatables and then we fell backwards which also didn’t hurt. Then we did free-styling but we didn’t use our arms because they were trapped inside the zorb but we didn’t use our legs because we had to use them to run so we had to charge into each other and knock everybody over. We wore knee pads on our knees so we didn’t get injured. There were for of us and I was the youngest and the smallest so I got knocked over the most. Then we learned to do forward roles in the bodyzorb. Then we did racing which was where we could push each other over to be first.

Beverley Park was one of the best trips I have ever been on and I would recommend it for all ages.
