Review | Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids Edition Tablet

Share

Launched in June 2018, the Fire HD 10 Kids Edition features a brilliant 10.1” 1080p Full HD screen, a powerful processor, 32 GB of storage, and up to 10 hours of battery life, plus a year of Amazon Fire for Kids Unlimited, a kid-proof case, and a 2-year worry-free guarantee – all for only £199.99 – so what did we think?

NB: We were sent the Fire HD 10 Kids Edition to review but all views and opinions are my own.

As owners of two of the Fire HD 8 Kids Edition we already know how great the Fire HD is, but I have to say that the really large screen (you can see below how it physically compares to the 8) is a real hit.

I’ve read some reviews that suggest it might be better suited to an older child due to its proportions but my three aged 6,6 and 7 don’t struggle with it at all, in fact they really enjoy using the larger sized model.

Of the key features below the 10 hours of battery life is slightly shorter than the 12 hours promised by the Fire HD 8 Kids Edition but in practice they seemed to last a similar amount of time. Review conditions are of course not lab condition, with different children watching different things at different times, but it suits me that their battery life is similar it has to be said.

Key Features

  • Price: £199.99
  • 10-inch 1080p display
  • 32GB of storage
  • 10 hours of battery life
  • A year of Amazon Fire for Kids Unlimited
  • Kid-proof case

The year free of Amazon Fire for Kids Unlimited (worth £3.99 a month = £47.88) is a fabulous inclusion.

Amazon Fire for Kids Unlimited offers over 5,000 age-appropriate books, videos, educational apps, and games; kids also have access to tens of thousands of curated, kid-friendly websites and YouTube videos.

The kids have been playing with the Fire for Kids unlimited package for some time now and have not run out (nowhere close) of things that they want to watch, such is the breadth of the content offered.

I love the Parent Dashboard which you can find here which allows you to manage time limits by activity i.e. they can only have so much you tube time, or that they can only have time to play  once they have finished some educational targets from educational apps.

I think the feature works brilliantly on the mobile phone too and means it’s easy to check and update.

Amazon Fire for Kids also has parental controls that give you as the parents the ability to manage time limits by activity, adjust the age filters, and even impose a bedtime for when the Fire for Kids should shuts down for the day! For older kids who may have them in their room at bedtime this is a godsend.

I also LOVE not only the kid proof case, but the 2-year worry-free guarantee! What this means is that if they break it, you can return it to Amazon and they will replace it. No questions asked.  I mean seriously this is an amazing guarantee! Genuinely means its worry free!

You can also download things to watch on the go! I only recently discovered this and it’s a game changer! Check out our video below for more info on this feature (albeit it does feature the smaller Fire HD 8 Kids Edition).

The Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids Edition Tablet is a great addition to our household and will make our trip to Brittany in the coming weeks just that little bit easier!

Why not check them out on Amazon.
