Portmeirion, Llyn Peninsula

Share

We have wanted to go to this village for some time. In the past we’ve thought about driving there for a day trip but it’s two hours from us so a little far for the girls when we didn’t know what really to expect.

As we were staying at Gwnyfryn Farm just outside Pwllhelli, Portmeirion Village was only half an hour away so we drove down on the Sunday of our week away. We arrived just after it opened at about 10.15 and set off with a picnic to explore. At £8.50 per adult (£8 for concessions) and free for Under 5’s, it was quite expensive for a couple of hours wander but we really did enjoy the sights. This write up will be more of a gallery post as the beauty of Portmeirion is in the colours and the photographs (on such a beautiful sunny September day) really do show this.  It was a lovely place for our Mini Travellers to spend a few hours exploring and the views were incredible.

Tips

Book online as it is slightly cheaper.

We didn’t take a buggy with us to Portmeirion as our 3 little ones are really good walkers, but it did look like it would be a little tricky to explore Portmeirion properly with a buggy as there are lots of steps up to buildings and into nooks and crannies.

There is a paddling pool in the centre so take a towel for wet feet. We hadn’t realised.

Lots of benches and places to eat a picnic.

Great ice-cream so we are told. We actually had ice cream on the beach afterwards.

If you eat at Castell Deudraeth, which is gorgeous (redesigned by Terence Conran in the most beautiful of settings), it serves gastro pub/fine pub food and you get into to Portmerion for free.
