Planning a Holiday – Mum v Dad

We’ve just come back from two weeks in Greece and it was wonderful.  I got time to read some books, I drank lovely wine and ate fabulous food, and we had loads of fun with the kids.  However this week I was challenged to think about what it took to get there.

So here goes Planning a holiday – Mum v Dad:

1. I worked out when we could go on holiday, taking into account school holidays, my work colleagues holidays and hubby’s holidays.

2. I liaised with the holiday company to book the holiday, checked the flights worked, sorted out car seats, arranged the travel insurance and arranged payment.

3. I got the girls to try on all their clothes, worked out what fitted and what didn’t, and ordered more clothes.

4. I tried to work out in advance what swimming costumes and swimming aids the kids would need.  Would they need arm bands, swim fin, float suits? Would they want UV suits, rash vests, swimming costumes.

5. I guessed what size shoes they would be when we went on holiday to buy pumps, crocs and sandals.

6. I ordered all the toiletries we would need. Thankfully online.

7. I then tried to pack all the kids clothes into our lovely new suitcases.

8. I ordered, made and packed a picnic to make sure the kids wouldn’t be hungry on the journey.

9. I sorted out all my own clothes, left it too late to order many new things for me, but managed a few bits.

10. I worried that I’d forgotten lots of other things and wondered if I had it all sorted out.

My Hubby

He packed his own clothes and drove us to the airport!!!  Sound familiar?!?

Legal & General Insurance have done some interesting research on the value of a mum and have found that through unpaid tasks in the home, the average Mum is worth more than the Dad.  Does this sound familiar to you??

  1. Omg I can totally relate to this. This is why I step back on holiday and let hubby do the driving if we are in the UK (more wine time for me). Mind you I know some people who also pack for their husbands !!! I totally draw the line at this. Packing for 3 is bad enough. So yep hubby packs for himself and drives….. oh and he also pays for the holidays xx
