Mini Travellers Year in Review 2017

Share

In 2015 and 2016 we took 54 and 53 trips respectively. This year we took some fairly exciting trips so as I started writing this I expected the number of trips to be less.

We have however taken 60 flights between the five of us, so it hasn’t exactly been boring!

So what did we get up to in 2017!

January

We started this year with a fabulous trip to the wonderful St Mawes Retreats. Beautiful 5* properties in the village of St Mawes and ours had a view of the ever changing sea.  We had a really lovely week and took trips to St Mawes Castle, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, The Eden Project and the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth.

February

At the start of February we had a lovely weekend at Darwin Forest in the Peak District with the grandparents too. We really enjoyed this relaxed place which is definitely an alternative to Center Parcs.

We then took a trip to Lisbon over half term and stayed with Martinhal, first in the city centre and then over on the coast in Cascais. We enjoyed our time in Cascais but LOVED our trip to Chiado, Lisbon and really enjoyed exploring the city with the girls. We are heading to Porto with the girls this February as I’ve just booked the flights.

March

March seemed to be mainly filled up with children’s parties practically every weekend, however we did get chance to visit Chirk Castle!

April

April was back to normal and saw a trip in a Motorhome, our first ever, including a day trip to Alton Towers.  We also spent a week on the Gower Peninsula. It was cold but we just wrapped up warm and had some lovely day trips to Swansea and Oystermouth Castle.

May

May brought with it our trip to Rwanda which we had eagerly awaited. It was incredible and a true adventure. We learnt a lot about ourselves as a family during those two weeks and just what the girls were capable of.  It was truly an incredible experience!

June

We didn’t manage any day trips as a family this month but I did manage a cheeky trip away to Halkidiki with Sarah to Sani Dunes. We tried out all their new facilities and had a really restful trip.

July

In July we had our annual camping trip with friends in North Yorkshire, a trip to Nozstock Festival in torrential rain and a week in Corsica in a beautiful villa with an enormous pool.  The Corsica trip was just what we all needed after some crazy busy weeks at work and school.

August

The kids were off school for the 6 week holidays so we had much more time for days out. Before we ended the holidays and the month with a week in Brittany which was a LOT of fun, we had a failed trip to Wales to an activity centre (which was awful) spent three days in the Lakes with family visiting Threlkeld Quarry, Lowther Castle and Windermere, and also went to the Just So Festival.

September

The weekend after the kids went back to school we had a lovely, albeit rainy, weekend at Center Parcs in the Lakes which was also Lily’s birthday and took in our final festival of the year The Good Life Experience in Wales.

October

We stayed in the UK for October half term and had a lovely cottage break in Mid Wales. From there we went on a few day trips to Powis Castle, Montgommery Castle and Attingham Park.

November

We had a child free trip to Oman in November which was absolutely stunning. I shared photos on Instagram but have yet to blog it as it was a 40th birthday treat!

December

December often brings with it a lot of trips out but I really limited these this year as we were spending Christmas Day in Lapland and I didn’t want the kids to be over ‘Christmassed’ before we went!  We did however manage a lovely day out in Liverpool at the Winter Wonderland activities and I sneaked off to Morzine for a ski weekend and spent 3 nights in an incredible luxury chalet!

Phew!

If you are still with me Thank you!!!

Thanks to everyone too who reads this blog and keeps me motivated with kind comments.  It’s been another crazy wonderful year!!

33 trips!! A lot less day trips than the year before means the number is a lot lower than last years 53 but the trips have been chunkier and in lots of ways more fun!

Wishing you all a Happy New Year and safe travels in 2018!
