Picture Books

Ruffles and the Red, Red Coat by David Melling (Nosy Crow)

Ruffles is a very cute little dog who loves sniffing, scratching and running. He doesn’t love his new red coat one teeny, tiny bit but perhaps the promise of jumping in puddles with his best friend Ruby can change his mind? My boys and I all absolutely love the humour in David Melling’s illustrations of Ruffles and Ruby.

The Pet by Catherine Emmett and David Tazzyman (Macmillan Children’s Books)

When Digby demands a pet, his father is quick to oblige even though Digby isn’t very good at looking after his animals. But when the pets Digby wants get bigger and wilder, and are still not looked after very well, the problems really start. This is a hilarious cautionary tale about being careful what you wish for and the importance of looking after your pets properly!
