On Sunday we had the opportunity to visit the Manchester City Stadium for their special christmas tour which is named Santa v Elves! We are a family of five with 3 sons aged 5, 7 and 9. As our children and my husband are football mad this seemed an ideal opportunity to spend some quality time together even though we don’t support city!!!
The tour started at 12.00 noon but we had time to look around the City Store before the tour started.
Once our guide Dominic had greeted us we were led through to a small museum area that housed the trophy cabinet, video areas where you can watch the players in training from during the week and information about the history of the club. This is also where you have the opportunity to put on a City branded Elf or Santa jumper depending on which team you are put in and have your picture taken which can be collected later.
After the pictures we then played our first game. I won’t spoil the surprise but they involved all the children and adults and at this point we were now playing for points!!!
The tour then took us through to the Stadium where you get the opportunity to see inside parts of the ground that are either out of bounds to fans or very expensive to be part of. The boys really enjoyed the Players Changing rooms and the chance to sit in the expensive heated seats in the stand. We also got the opportunity to sit in the managers seat at pitch side. Our eldest son Finn got the chance to be a newly signed player and sit in the same chair that any newly signed player would for their first press conference with the manager. During the tour there is the opportunity for everyone to get involved with a few more christmas games and the competition starts hotting up.
The tour lasted approximately 2 hours and our guide was very knowledgable and passionate about City and its past history. To any keen football fan and especially City fan this would be very interesting. When the tour finishes a nice touch is the chance for kids and adults to make a match attack card for themselves that goes into the City computer and displays in the City Store for all to see. You also receive 10% discount in the City Store once the tour is over. There is ample free parking at the City Store entrance, however there are no restaurant or cafe facilities for before or after the tour.
Manchester City FC’s Christmas Stadium and Club Tour is a great day out for the whole family. Tours run on selected dates throughout December. Visit www.mancity.com/tours for full information on dates and prices.
NB: Carol and her family were invited to Manchester City to review but all views and opinions are their own.
