Family Friendly Luxury Ski Chalet in Morzine with TG Ski

The weekend before Christmas 2017 I was invited to spend a weekend with TG Ski Holidays in a Luxury Catered Ski Chalet in Morzine with some other travel influencers.

The email asked whether I fancied a weekend of sledging, skiing, skiddoing and ice skating, all whilst staying at a ski chalet with a hot tub on the balcony, a private chef and unlimited champagne and wine. I didn’t need to be asked twice!

So on the Friday before Christmas I found myself on an early flight out of Manchester for the short hop to Geneva (it’s just an hour and half if you haven’t flown it before, an hour from London) followed by a very easy transfer up to Morzine in just 90 minutes.

Morzine is perfect for a weekend break

Morzine’s closeness to Geneva means it is actually perfect for a weekend break and whilst in recent years snow has been an issue this early in the season, this year they have had an incredible amount already making for a incredibly pretty winter wonderland.

As we arrived at the chalet snow was falling everywhere and it was a delightful welcome to see a bottle of champagne on the table together with cakes and french bread.

Our chalet host Emily greeted us with the news that we could either spend the afternoon relaxing (the Morzine nap became quite a ‘thing’ over the weekend) jump into the hot tub, or perhaps take a stroll into town. All we needed to do was be back for 7pm in time for cocktails and canapés.  Penny and I chose to wander into town and take advantage of the light afternoon to see what Morzine had to offer.

Oh and the jacket and bobble hat are North Face from Blacks Online if you’re interested and the Snow Boots are from Keen!

I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the town and all the facilities. I am by no means au fait with countless ski resorts but I do know that lots of them really only cater for those that want to ski all day. Morzine is first and foremost a town in its own right too, so there is an ice skating rink, a large town pool with indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts for the summer months and a lot of shops and cafes.

We braved the long bridge across the valley, looking splendid in the snow and only turned round because it was starting to get dark and we didn’t want to lose our way on the first afternoon.

Fabulous Chalet Service from TG Ski

Returning to the chalet was throughout the weekend, a warm and welcoming experience. A large boot room downstairs kept wet shoes and coats out of the chalet and a lift between all the floors was a real luxury after long days.  The underfloor heating added to the feeling of warmth and cosiness and whilst there was a log fire, the chalet didn’t need it for warmth.

We collected in the living room that first evening, and every night after that just before 7, for cocktail hour with Ross. Aspire chalets with TG Ski always have their own private chef and chalet host, but there are also drivers on call within twenty minutes to ferry you all around the resort and it seems some of them can turn their hand to a cocktail or two.  From a family perspective the TG Ski team help out with the children too. Not in the traditional sense of babysitting or nannying (although they can help you arrange that) but with things like pizza making activities, child friendly tea times, helping you with ski boots at the beginning of the day and making sure you are delivered to an easy spot for skiing.  They will also work with you to make sure the chalet works for you and your family, making sure if the chalet isn’t full with you booking that like minded people are placed together.

In practical terms the drivers on hand worked like a treat all weekend. It was nice not to have to decide when we wanted to leave or return, and if like actually happened on occasion, plans changed, it didn’t matter at all.

After cocktails at 7pm it was time for champagne and canapés. On each of the three nights we had superb options within our dietary requirements. Yorkshire puddings with rare roast beef and horseradish, asian stir fry spoons, smoked salmon bites, goat cheese pastries, were just some of the treats, all prepared to perfection.

Sitting down around the large table to a 4 course dinner, paired with matching wines every evening was a complete treat. Glasses were regularly filled and it felt as though you were in a michelin starred restaurant, not within your own accommodation with your slippers on under the table!  Port and cheeseboards were served to finish the evenings and wine left for you to self pour (imagine that) when the chalet hosts went home at around 10.30pm!

The evenings got more relaxed as the weekend went on and the group got to know each other better, by night three there was pretty raucous laughter from 7pm onwards as we not only compared ski tales but the different words across the English language used by the Americans/Kiwis and English in the group.  This is chalet life and it is something I want to do again. Knowing that I could spend a week in a chalet like this with friends, having this sort of experience in the evening whilst the kids sleep after an exhausting day on the slopes is incredibly appealing!

The extras provided by TG Ski continued throughout the weekend. On the first morning Doorstop Ski arrived to fit our ski gear in the bootroom, avoiding the manic changeover days in shops. A brief form before we arrived with shoe size and ski ability helped the process along, but having spent a Friday night in a ski shop trying to get boots fitted with tired kids, this is an incredibly useful service.  Extras like lift passes can be with you on your pillow on arrival and make that first morning on the slopes easier and quicker which is all anyone ever wants.

Whilst staying at TG Ski Chalets I did actually ski more than I thought I would. As a terrible skier in the past I did think I’d take advantage of the many options on offer in Morzine rather than simply just ski, however Sally from The Snow Institute (a British run ski school) restored my confidence in my ability to ski and showed me where I had been going wrong. It meant we stayed on the slopes longer than our ski lesson and managed a few runs without any additional help. When we finally came down the mountain we simply rang for a driver to collect us and she found us having hot chocolate before returning us home for tea, cake and a Morzine Nap.  In fact I loved the skiing so much the time that I didn’t actually have the time for the sledging, skidooing or ice skating that I had thought I’d spend my time doing!

I found time for a lot of time in the hot tub on the balcony though!

High Quality Food at TGSki Catered Chalets

Food is a major part of the experience at a TG Ski Chalet.  Your morning starts with a pre-arranged tea or coffee that can be actually brought to you in bed! I mean how civilised is it to actually be brought a cup of tea to your bed rather than simply a wake up bang on the door.  It’s worth getting up though – breakfast was anything from scrambled eggs and avocado to nutella pancakes, always all served with a beautiful plate of fruit, fresh yoghurts, croissants and more French bread.  I’m sure there could have been champagne if you’d asked for it, but most mornings ‘another’ drink wasn’t really on the cards.  The home made smoothies and orange juice went down a treat though, as did the tea and the nespresso coffee.

Our experience with TG Ski was impeccable from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. Having met the owner of the business that weekend you can tell it’s because they genuinely care about whether you have a good time. No large conglomerate here, just a hard working team who want to make your trip the best it can be.   They have a  concierge service who contacts you when you have booked your trip to discuss all your needs and who will hold you hand as much or as little as you need through the trip.

A ski holiday is next on our bucket list and I would have no hesitation in booking with TG Ski.  I think I will be back in Morzine with the whole family sooner than I might have thought.

  1. I cannot wait to take my boys skiing. Next year may be the year to do it! They haven’t really ever seen snow! This place looks incredible. I could definitely make A LOT of time for that hot tub. In fact, would it either be worth hiring skiis? 😉 #MondayEscapes

  2. The facilities look world class both indoors and outdoors. It would be hard not to have a good time in a destination like this. I could see myself in the spa drink in hand while the kids are sound asleep

  5. Sounds like a great place. I am not a skier at all (in fact, it doesn’t appeal to me at all) but it sounds like there are several other activities for those who prefer not to ski. #MondayEscapes

  6. Sounds heavenly, particularly on this dreary Monday evening! I’m looking forward to returning to skiing in a couple of years time, hopefully 10 years off the slopes won’t matter… #Mondayescapes

  7. This sounds like my idea of heaven. Heated floors, champagne, tea in my slippers, and then some light skiing. It’s enough to make one feel like Audrey Hepburn. And yes, the food…#mondayescapes
