So what are the 3 Reasons I love a Day Trip to Liverpool with Kids!

As a local, and someone who drives into Liverpool most days to work, it has taken me a while to write this post.  Could somewhere we visit for a day trip, or somewhere I work, actually end up being my favourite city?  We travel so much that I wasn’t sure.

I started flicking back through some photos on Flickr for inspiration and I came across some photos of a day out at the Albert Dock over the summer.  The photos re-assured me.

I love Liverpool and I have tried to explain this by choosing just 3 reasons why we love a Day Trip to Liverpool with Kids!

1. You can get to Liverpool on the Ferry across the Mersey!! Perfect as a Day Trip to Liverpool with Kids

If you drive to Birkenhead you can get the ‘actual’ ferry across the Mersey.   Not only can you park for free in Birkenhead, saving a significant amount in Liverpool parking charges, you can treat your Mini Travellers to a chance to sing “Ferry across the Mersey” at full volume.  The trick here is not to book a ‘cruise‘ but to opt for a commuter ticket which is considerably cheaper and will be plenty of time for your little one to enjoy being on a boat, and enough time for you to panic about them going overboard.  Commuter ticket prices can be found here.

2 The Albert Dock – Day Trip to Liverpool with Kids

The old weather map from Granada News is long gone, but there are pirate ships and boats to look at.  Liverpool is a city in which to wander.  You can wander around the dock, have lunch at Pizza Express, have ice cream on the grass and then on our day out the girls entertained themselves for what felt like hours on the riverfront. Dancing and performing shows for us on a makeshift stage.  It was a fab day.

3 There is a Big Wheel

There is a Big Wheel!!. It’s no London Eye but it is high enough and affords lovely views over Liverpool. It is also significantly cheaper with under 3’s being free.  The girls loved it.

There is loads more to do down by the front which on that day we didn’t get time to do, but there are museums, plenty of shops and more restaurants than you can count.

What do you love about Liverpool? Do you think it works a great Day Trip to Liverpool with Kids

  1. Albert Dock is great – went there last year just before my youngest arrived – we just had a walk around the dock but it was a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

  2. I’ve not been to Liverpool for years and even then it was fleeting as visiting friends. Really must get back for a proper visit soon. Useful info about the commuter ride

  3. I must go more. I feel like it’s far – but it really isn’t. And it is so cool and vibrant. We must try the museums soon, as they’re so good for little ones. These photos of you and your family are stunning. Jess x #sundaystars
