Flying with Kids during Covid | 7 Things I’ll be packing for the flight

So this isn’t a should you shouldn’t you post about flying with kids during Covid. There are plenty of those you can find.

You will also have your own view on whether you are going to fly with your kids during this Covid period, or not. If you’ve chosen not to fly, we completely understand but if you have decided to, then here’s our thoughts on what we will be doing.

This is a post to share what we will be doing differently when we travel and what we will all have in our own hand luggage on our next flight, which we hope to be 21st July to Crete. This is a previously booked trip to Northern Crete for 2 weeks.

What to pack in your hand luggage when travelling during Covid?

Face Masks

We will be wearing face masks. This is likely to be a condition of flying. We have bought soft re-useable ones that shouldn’t irritate the kids as much. Yes I think they will struggle to wear them for 4 hours (I think we will) but if it means we can have 2 weeks in the sun on a family holiday and it will help limit our risk and others then we are happy to wear them.

Hand Gel

We have bought lots of little bottles of hand gel and we will all have one of these in a small plastic bag to take through security. We usually limit the amount of liquid we take through security but this time we think this is important.

Tissues

In the same bags we will all have our own packet of tissues to use if we need to sneeze etc.

Cleaning Wipes/Baby Wipes

Sadly while these have been out of use in our house due to environmental reasons in recent years, we will be packing a couple of large packets of wipes in hand luggage to wipe our own area when we sit down. Just to be overly sure it is cleaner.

Alcohol Wipes

You might touch your phone/iPad as much as you touch your face apparently so it’s worth using alcohol wipes to clean your phone.

Drinks

We will be packing our own water bottles and re-filling these after security, or buying bottles of water before we board the flight. There will be, we’ve been told, limited drinks and snacks on board. We will be suggesting the kids don’t drink too much of this though as queuing for toilets will also be prohibited on board although toilet access will be made available to individual passengers upon request.

Snacks

We fly at 1.50pm so we will have lunch before we get on the flight and then take a decent size picnic on board for during the flight and to eat before we land at 6pm our time, 8pm in Crete. You can take as much food as you like on board. To avoid the airline rules on bags etc it can be useful to transfer this to a duty free bag.

  1. Some good tips here, especially about not drinking too much water during the flight! Also taking snacks, I’d not realised that there won’t be any available.
    Thank you.
