Eastham Country Park, Wirral is only about twenty minutes from our house. It’s situated on the banks of the River Mersey and there are great views across the Estuary.
It’s one of those places that I didn’t expect much from, but we have returned time and time again on a family day trip, because it is free (always a bonus) isn’t too far away (tick) has toilets near the car park (essential) and has just enough to do to keep us entertained for a couple of hours.

When I was looking on the website for any details about the park I wanted to include in this write up I found this map of the park which shows you what is there, and also purports to be a Sculpture Trail. We’ve never done the scuplture trail but will definitely do so another time, but it does give you a feel for how the park it is laid out and what is there.
My three girls, and my neighbours two boys, like to explore the woods, try and find the bear pit, and on autumn days kick around with the leaves. We always end up back near the car park playing on the pirate ship, which is simple, but keeps them entertained for ages. These photos say more about what we get up on a family day trip than I can!

We go for walks here every summer. Walk on a bit to The Old Ferry Office Cafe for a huge selection of ice-creams! Though with five kids in tow, you might want to avoid it! Great post! Maria x

Oooh – how fabulous to find such a gem of a day out right on your doorstep!!! We have a few like this (which are also free) where you can just take a short trip to and spend some lovely time outdoors. What beautiful pictures too! Your photos are fab, the kids look like they are having the best time. I love it here, when we were kids we used to always ask to go ‘down the woods’ I have so many childhood memories from here and Thurstaston, all free and endless fun. We took Lucas last year to show him the bear pit, he loved it! xx

This place looks great. I can’t remember it being around when I grew up in the Wirral. Which is sad. My brother’s and I would have loved to play in the woods and on that awesome pirate ship.
