4.5 stars – an excellent first-show of the day, highly recommended
Friday morning at the Fringe and we file into Studio Two at George Square Gardens. It’s a beautiful day, sometimes Festival time in Edinburgh can start to feel a bit autumnal, but this year it’s been warm and Edinburgh has really looked beautiful. Several minutes before the start and out pop the stars of the show Ollie, Robin and Shaelee for a chat… They welcome everyone, ask some questions, and check out the audience dinosaurs (of course there are a few). It’s a great way to put everyone at ease and a nice way to introduce children to theatre.

Dinosaurs and All That Rubbish is an adaptation of Michael Foreman’s classic children’s book (celebrating its 50thanniversary this year) which, ahead of its time, warned of the environmental crisis facing our planet.
The story is exciting and very well portrayed and interactive, the music was foot-stomping and catchy with multipleinstruments being played and the cast of three were a truly talented bunch.
Yes, it’s a serious subject and of the utmost importance, but Roustabout Theatre deal with it in a humorous and imaginative way, to leave audiences inspired to take action and ask questions.
Afterwards I asked Merle (aged nearly 5) for her feedback – she said: “My favourite part was when all the dinosaurs came – I liked stomping and all of the instruments.” Brilliant! A big hit for us, an excellent first-show of the day, highly recommended.
