Christmas at the London Transport Museum

I should probably start by declaring that the London Transport Museum has, for years, been one of our go-to attractions in London. Not only does it have lots of buses and trains to play on (always a winner with our 6 year old son) but it has also been very well designed with children in mind. From the large buggy park in the entrance to the stamper trail, it is setup to make life easier and fun for families.

We arrived just after 12 and decided to have a bite to eat at the cafe before venturing into the museum. The small cafe above the gift shop is accessible without entering the museum itself and sells a children-friendly pick and mix style lunch (rolls, carrot sticks, fruit etc) as well as sandwiches and other hot food. Wine and beer are also available if you need fortification before the main event which I did!
The museum itself is set up in chronological order – You start in 1800 and end with soon-to-be-opened Elizabeth line train and planned Crossrail 2. It is full of interactive displays, tube carriages and buses to sit in, as well as my personal highlight – a very impressive simulator where you can drive a tube train
One thing that I must mention is the stamper trail – a set of 13 stamps to be collected on the way round the museum. Although a simple idea, it beautifully drives you through the experience and encourages you so see everything as you are looking for that elusive stamp number 10!
Christmas at the London Transport Museum
For Christmas, the museum has joined in with the festive spirit with a roving Santa to find around the museum and a craft area where you can create London Transport themed decorations – there was plenty of space even on a busy Saturday and a seemingly endless supply of glitter, pompoms and colouring pencils and paper.  The kids loved this part of the day and you should definitely try and make time for all the activities below:

The  Winter Bunting Making which we took part in is on at the London Transport Museum every day between 10:30 and 17:30.Create bunting and decorations using London’s iconic roundel, bus, tree or jumper shapes with a variety of crafty and sparkly materials. Suitable for families with children aged 3 to 12
