Bosinver Farm Cottages, Cornwall

Share

This review has been written by Sally Gould who travelled to Bosinver with her husband and two gorgeous little boys.

Having spent a wonderful week in Tenby last summer, we wanted to holiday in the U.K. again. With two boys aged 2 and 4 to consider, it was important for us to find somewhere which catered primarily for their needs (and allowed us to relax and enjoy ourselves too of course! Happy children=happy parents after all!).

So I took to google and typed the words ‘child friendly holiday U.K.’. I soon found glowing reviews for a place called Bosinver, holiday accommodation set on 30 acres of farm land near St Austell in Cornwall. Not keen on the idea of such a long journey, I clicked on the website and was sold almost immediately. We booked a week in June, our last opportunity to holiday during term time.

Fast forward 6 months and we weren’t disappointed. Upon arrival a lovely member of staff showed us round the farm and provided us with all the information we could possibly need. Our cottage was beautiful, a real home from home. Unlike some other self catering accommodation, the kitchen had every utensil you could possibly need to cook meals for your family. If you don’t fancy cooking, there are home made, frozen meals available to purchase from reception. There are also two local pubs within walking distance which serve food. Pat and Dave Smith, the owners of Bosinver have literally thought of everything. There is an on site laundrette with washing machines and dryers and a communal outdoor washing line. There is even a drying room which is a wooden construction – very handy for drying clothes on warm but wet days.

Toy boxes are included in every cottage, and if the weather isn’t great, you can borrow DVDs, games even baking equipment for little ones! But that is literally just the start. On site, there is an amazing heated swimming pool. Swim noodles and some other equipment are available for general use. Just outside the swimming pool is a terrace where you can relax and dry off if the weather permits (we were very lucky). There are tennis courts, a games room (housing table tennis and pool tables), an indoor soft play area, an outdoor zip slide and tunnel slide (firm favourites with our four year old) and a Gruffalo trail through woodland.  We were very fortunate as there was a fabulous play area just outside our cottage which comprised large wooden tractors with slides and scramble nets, a sandpit, swings and a trampoline. It’s a great place to get chatting to other families.

Now on to the activities. Every morning the children can help Farmer Dave feed the animals – ducks, chickens, goats and sheep. They can then pick themselves an egg from the hen house. Our 4 year old also enjoyed the pony ride (he still talks about ‘Secret’ the horse) and taking part in the ‘Wild Kids’ session where they were shown how to build a fire and light it and then toast marshmallows!

There are several beaches within easy reach of Bosinver. You do need to drive but the closest is only a 10 minute journey away. We found Polkerris beach ideal as the kids could paddle safely, explore rock pools and buy that all important ice cream! ‘Sam’s’ on the beach serves fresh food including pizza throughout the day and into evening. Oh and beach equipment such as body boards, buckets, spades and nets are all available to borrow from Bosinver! With many Cornish towns within easy reach, we were able to visit Padstow, Falmouth and Charlsetown. In truth though, the kids couldn’t wait to get back to Bosinver! A wonderful holiday was had by all and we would certainly recommend it!
