Best Things to do in Tenerife | Recommendations by a 7 year old

Hello, my name is Martha and I am just 7. I’ve been going on holiday to Parque Santiago, in Playa de las Americas in Tenerife since I was a little baby and I was supposed to be going again for the Easter holidays, but as I can’t go for a little while, I thought I would tell you about my favourite things to do when I am there and what a great holiday place it is, instead.

This is me.

It is pretty much always sunny in Tenerife, so my favourite 3 things to do during the day time are going to the beach; going down to the pool and going to one of the play parks that are all around.

There a few different beaches that we can easily walk to, but my favourite is Playa Troya.  It’s got lots of space to play bat and ball on and lots of good sand to build sandcastles or dig holes to hide in;  it also gets great waves, which I love to jump over and swim in with my twin brother Oscar and mummy.

The pools at Parque Santiago are great.   When I was little I liked to just play in the baby pool, filling my buckets and watering cans, floating around in my inflatable plane or tyre and whooshing down the little slide,

but since last year I am always in the really big  pool.  It is 2.5m deep, which is way taller even than mummy and I like to throw my diving sticks in and dive right down to get them.

Jumping into the really deep pool

There is a middle sized pool too, where I can stand and that is great for playing with friends I make and just swimming about to cool off. I love to make friends on holiday and as soon as we get there I am looking for people to play in the pool with.  Sometimes we see the same children each time we go, like Austin, Esme, Darcy and Alex and that’s really lovely.

There are lots of different play parks in our part of Playa de Las Americas and even though it’s a bit hot to play in them in the afternoon, they are great to stop at on the way to buy bread and croissants first thing in the morning or for go to a walk to before we go to the pool or beach. My favourite ones at the moment are a brand new one just by Parque Santiago 4, partly because it has great swings and partly because you can often see really colourful noisy parrots perched high up in the trees next to it; and the one just behind the Hotel Conquistador, because it is right by the beach so you can watch the waves and surfers while you play.

If you want to go out for lunch or dinner there are lots of great restaurants to choose from.  For lunch I like a restaurant just behind Parque Santiago, right on the beach.  I call it “Bunny Pizza” because if you order the Children’s pizza, it comes in the shape of a bunny’s face, with dough shaped to look like ears, olives for eyes and a pepper for its mouth. I also like the beach bar at Villa Cortes, where they do really yummy spaghetti and all the tables have a great view of crashing waves and surfers.

For a special treat in the night,  we go out for dinner to Bianco and I know it’s also Mummy’s favourite restaurant.  It’s in the Safari centre, which means you can watch the dancing musical fountains whilst you are there too.

If we go to Bianco we always put on nice clothes, which I love to do. We always book a table on the terrace so it’s nice and cool and we can see what is going on.  Children get a fun activity sheet to do whilst you wait for the food to come, and I always order the same thing. Coke (well I am on holiday and Mummy is having wine), garlic dough balls and then spaghetti with tomatoes and tonnes and tonnes of fresh parmesan cheese, plus strawberry ice cream as my pudding. Yummy!

Me, Checking out the Bianco Menu

We always have such a lovely time in Tenerife and I would recommend it to any children who like sunny places and swimming pools.  It is great to be with mummy every day, to not have to go in the car to places, but just walk about in the sunshine, and to just do relaxing fun things all the time.   I really can’t wait to go again soon and I hope it wont be too long.

Love

Martha xx
