During October I was lucky enough to be invited to Afternoon Tea and Spa at The Midland Hotel with Spa Seekers to try out their Autumn Spa Day package.
The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. It was the Sunday before my 40th birthday and hubby ushered me out of the house as early as he could so he could spend the day shopping with the girls (for as it turns out my 40 birthday presents – amazing!) and I got to spend some time shopping in Manchester before heading over to The Midland at 1pm.
Knowing my friends like I do, I knew I would find them snapping away outside the hotel before eventually heading into the hotel so I caught up with them outside The Midland which has to be one of the most majestic buildings in Manchester.
Walking into the hotel is always an experience know matter how well you know the hotel. Doors are opened for you, and the staff are warm and helpful making sure you find your way round the substantial hotel!
It was Afternoon Tea for us first and we were treated to a beautiful array of cakes and sandwiches, together with more scones than we could possibly eat, a selection of jams and lots and lots of different choices of tea. I opted for a smokey Northern Tea and Was happy to accept the cold bubbly champagne too! It was the start of my birthday week after all!
Towards the end of the Afternoon Tea when most of us couldn’t eat another bite, we tried to agree which was the best cake. Whilst the chocolate mousse cake definitely scored highly it was the lemon meringue that I think just about won.
Heading downstairs to the spa, a little heavier than we went in, I looked forward to a catch up with Julia followed by a back massage. The relaxation rooms in The Midland are really quite special, with hanging pods and larger rooms to the side for groups. There is Tea and water to help yourself too and I was really impressed with the atmosphere and space.
The pool area is however a little small. This is often the case in a city centre hotel but as the rest of The Midland spa is really quite big and there are a lot of treatment rooms, this was a little unexpected. It was really very busy and as unfortunately the steam room was out of action there was quite a lot of couples trying to fit themselves into the sauna and the jacuzzi. Julia and I managed a short time on each but preferred the pool for a little more space.
The back massage I had was exceptional. I have had quite a lot of back massages over the years due to collecting tension in my shoulders, but this one was one of the best. Perfect pressure in a lovely room with a very comfy bed. I was really very sad when it was over.
But the massage being over simply meant that I had to head back into the huge relaxation area where I found Sarah and Kerri-Anne chilling out in the pods. We managed quite a bit more high level strategy chat (ok gossip) and then made our way back to the changing rooms for our journeys home.
We had a super afternoon at The Midland Spa and can’t thank Spa Seekers enough for asking us to visit.
