What’s more British seaside than a trip to the Fish & Chip shop, so I asked a few of my fellow bloggers about their Best Fish & Chip Shops in British Seaside Towns and we came up with 10 for you.

I have so many childhood memories of sitting on the beach front with chips in newspaper (you were allowed to do that back then) trying to hide my chips from the passing seagulls!  I was always in such a dither when we went in, what did I want? It was such a treat. Should it be fish or fish bites, or would it be cheese and onion pie or would it even be spam fritters? Yes I know that makes me very Northern.  As I got older it was chips and gravy on a muffin (breadcake/bap) so the muffin got soaked with gravy!  Whatever you choose you’ll have a favourite and a no doubt ‘strange’ to others tradition from your local chippy.

The smell of the vinegar now is enough to get my tastebuds salivating, but all to often Fish & Chips can be a disappointing experience. They can be serve up greasy chips and undercooked fish and leave you disappointed with the memory.  However when they get it right, there is nothing better.

Here are 10 of the best Fish and Chip shops in British Seaside Towns from all across the Country.  All come very highly recommended!

10 of the best Fish and Chip shops in British Seaside Towns

1. Bispham Kitchens, Blackpool

If you’re going for fish and chips in Blackpool, try Bispham Kitchens Julia from Rainbeaubelle says. “There’s a takeaway and cafe, which my friend who lives round the corner says is a must, with the best cream cakes in town if you still have room.” I can concur with this as we went on her recommendation!

2. The Magpie, Whitby

The Magpie in Whitby comes highly recommended time and time again. We’ve never managed it on our trips to Whitby as people literally queue round the block but Colette from Going on an Adventure and Erin from Yorkshire Tots both rate it as one of the best fish and chips shops, so much so Colette was worried that when she finally took her husband it wouldn’t live up to expectations but it thankfully did!

3. Colman’s Fish & Chips, South Shields

Boo who is ten years old and writers Blogging Boo raves about Colman’s Fish & Chips. She writes that “The kids menu had an under the sea theme and was full of puzzles, anagrams and colouring for me to do! I really enjoyed this and even took it home to finish it.”

4. Castle Fish & Chips, Criccieth, Llyn Peninsula

A favourite of the Mini Travellers following a trip to Wales in 2014.  We bought 3 lots of Fish and Chips, 3 kids meals of sausage and chips (includes a drink) and a chip butty with gravy with change out of £25. Very reasonable for fish that tasted like fish, chips that weren’t too greasy and were incredibly yummy with lashings of salt n vinegar.  We ate them on a bench overlooking the beach.  It was starting to get cold by the time we finished but this didn’t stop us enjoying every moment.

5. Coastline, Blyth Beach

Sam from North East Family Fun has a post all about The Best Fish & Chip Shops in the North East and Coastline at Blyth Beach gets comments such as “Always fresh and cooked to perfection, plus the beautiful beach on the doorstep!!”

6. Park Road Fish Bar, Hythe

Penny from Parentshaped  loves Park Road Fish Bar.  She found this because “a friend who grew up nearby recommended the chips at Park Road Fish Bar, Hythe in Kent. The queue says it all. Worth waiting for and the kids loved climbing on the rocky groynes in the beach afterwards.”

7. Rockfish, Darmouth, Devon

Claire from Tin Box Traveller loves Rock Fish in Dartmouth, Devon. They also have restaurants in Brixham and Plymouth. The fish is extraordinarily fresh – it was in the sea the day before – and you can choose to eat in their family-friendly restaurant or takeaway.

8. Steins Fish & Chips, Padstow

I don’t think a round up of fish and chip shops in seaside towns in the UK would be complete without reference to Rick Steins. Karen from Stopping at Two went here recently on their trip to Cornwall and raved about it …

9. Beach Cafe, The Pier, Southwold

It’s virtually compulsory to have fish and chips at the seaside writes Clare at Suitcases & Sandcastles  (who took the wonderful photo above) and “the best place is at the Beach Café next to the Pier. Take a seat in one of the booths or wooden tables overlooking the beach and enjoy the fresh battered fish. Large portions cost only £1 more than the small and are massive: two pieces of fish and loads of chips.”

10. Pinnacles Restaurant, Seahouses

Trish at Mums Gone is a chippy expert and as a family they are very keen to test ‘award-winning’ chippies.  In Seahouses they gave the gong to Pinnacles Restaurant.  “I’m always swayed by a celebrity champion. Hence, when the Hairy Bikers claimed Pinnacles had the best fish and chips in the country, I was always going to be persuaded.”

  1. I clearly live the most sheltered fish and chip related life! The only place on this list that I’ve been to is Blackpool… It’s UK holidays for us until August next year so I think we could possibly tick a few off this list.
    Yum!!
