Santa Claus and The Night Before Christmas

I love going to the theatre – there’s always something magical about bringing a story to life in stage through music and sound.

Now that my son is old enough to be able to sit still for an hour or so, I thought it would get us into the festive spirit to spend some quality time together and catch a new production of Santa Claus and The Night Before Christmas at The Epsom Playhouse.

The story is simple: Emily is starting to doubt her belief in Santa Claus but wants to prove to all her friends he really is real… Cue lots of singing, dancing and interaction with the audience.

I was impressed with the three actors throughout the show, playing various roles including elves and a life-size bear. Their enthusiasm shone through even though they were playing to a small crowd.

My son was enthralled from the moment the production started. He shouted out loudly when asked questions, enthusiastically joined in with the ‘magic spells’ and bopped around in his chair to the musical numbers, even clapping.

It was also a surprisingly nice touch to get the children up afterwards to meet Santa Claus and get a small gift. It felt like an extra treat.

And that was what I loved most about Santa Claus: A Night Before Christmas – it really involved the children throughout and I was amazed how quickly the hour flew by. My son was not bored in anyway and seeing him so excited was heartwarming.

It’s perfect for children as young as two – and there’s definitely enough to keep them entertained – a great way to keep the magic of Christmas and Santa Claus alive!

Santa Claus and the Night Before Christmas is showing at various venues across the UK
