We are really into air displays as a family, and jumped at the chance to  attend a FREE airshow, featuring Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (Spitfire and Hurricane) and also The Red Arrows. The BBC also had exhibits and activities to educate the children re WW1 and 2 and the chance to be witness to interviews with a presenter of the One Show; again this was FREE!

It is really key for an airshow you check the forecast before the visit and we were really lucky with beautiful blue sky do the planes were really visible. The jet streams looked gorgeous in the sunshine. We found a good spot on the beach and were set up for the day!! My daughter had the benefit of playing on the beach, making sandcastles and all the usual beach stuff and also seeing the fabulous planes, to which she was most impressed with the colourful red arrows and their formations. If you have never seen the red arrows, I would recommend you do it at least once. This airshow is perfect, as usually airshows are paid events and you do not have to be a plane enthusiast to enjoy the stunt displays.

As well as planes, there was helicopters, search and rescue lifeboats and tanks and military vehicles on the ground,so  plenty of photo opportunities. There are also plenty of places to eat and drink, if you did not want to bring a picnic.

Rhyl gets a bad press, but there is plenty to do when an event is on and I would recommend this day to anyone who likes a day on the beach and likes planes, or has a little boy/girl who loves planes!

Tip: Get a good spot on the beach by getting there early and bring camping chairs for you and the kids.
